DESCRIPTION

The Perinatal Nurse Educator III supports the Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, Postpartum, Newborn, and Lactation nursing teams at two locations by providing advanced education and training to ensure optimal clinician knowledge and skills. This role applies a deep understanding of perinatal care, guiding both general and specialized nursing education programs. The Nurse Educator III serves as a lead instructor for entry-level and intermediate clinical nurse educators, playing a critical role in developing their instructional skills. Additionally, the role involves leading the implementation of new programs to enhance nursing practice and patient care across the perinatal continuum.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
In collaboration with nursing leadership in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn care areas, this role conducts needs assessments to evaluate nurse competencies and develop targeted training programs. The individual designs and delivers evidence-based curricula specific to maternal and newborn care, incorporating adult learning principles.
Responsibilities include participating in projects to validate nurse competencies, aligning with organizational goals, fostering leadership, and promoting cultural sensitivity. The role also involves delivering orientation and ongoing education focused on newborn assessment, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding support, and perinatal complications, ensuring compliance with legal and medical standards.
The individual responds to regulatory mandates related to maternal and neonatal outcomes and stays updated on best practices through professional development. Additionally, they contribute to committees and task forces to improve quality of care, patient safety, and compliance in these specialized areas, with other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor's of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN).
- Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
- BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
- Current certification in advanced fetal monitoring and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Three (3+) or more years of relevant inpatient obstetrical RN experience.
- Expertise in delivering clinical education, including orientation, competency development, and leadership training for perinatal nursing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to educate and build collaborative relationships with nursing staff, leadership, and diverse teams.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and complete projects on schedule.
- Proficient in conveying complex clinical information clearly, both in writing and verbally, to internal and external stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices, especially in obstetrics and infant care, including diagnoses, treatments, and patient/family education.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based research methods, data collection, and analysis for nursing education and quality improvement.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges and develop practical solutions.
- Deep understanding of diverse patient populations, varying acuity levels, and nursing standards of care in the perinatal setting.
- Ability to design and deliver educational programs for diverse audiences using adult learning principles and various teaching methodologies.
- Recent experience in implementing or mentoring quality improvement initiatives or evidence-based practice changes in perinatal care.
- Proven leadership, emotional intelligence, and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary, culturally diverse environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and virtual platforms like Zoom.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN).
- Specialty certification within area of specialty.
- Evidence of training in health equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience working in an academic medical center and/or a Magnet designated hospital.
- Experience presenting at professional meetings and effectively communicating in online platforms and in-person formats.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $116,000 - $224,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $55.56 - $107.38
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
