Certified Nurse Midwife Education and Certifications
In order to become a nurse midwife, you’ll start by earning a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) and passing the NCLEX-RN exam. Gain a few years of nursing experience in a related area of nursing, such as labor and delivery or maternal child health.
You will also need to complete either a master of science in nursing (MSN), which is the minimum requirement for certified nurse midwife jobs, or doctor of nursing practice (DNP) nurse midwife program.
Finally, you must pass the exam given by the American Midwifery Certification Board. Then you may apply for a nurse midwifery license through your state’s board of nursing.
