Manages the delivery of ambulatory patient care, which typically includes nursing, and may include laboratory, radiology, dental, etc. Facilitates the flow of patient care activities; may also participate in practice or center management operations.
The BMT/Cellular Therapy Nurse Manager directs a team of Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy (HBC) Nurse Coordinators, Practice Coordinators, and Unrelated Search Coordinator under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, HBC, and in collaboration with the HBC attending physicians, and HBC Quality Nurse Manager. The BMT/Cellular Therapy Nurse Manager is responsible for utilizing scientific, evidence-based, and clinical knowledge to oversee the BMT/Cellular Therapy team in the evaluation and coordination of patient care. The BMT/Cellular Therapy Nurse Manager will aid the Director of Operations, Director of Nursing, HBC and HBC Quality Nurse Manager in developing, implementing, and revising standardized operating procedures (SOP’s) covering all aspects of care for BMT/Cellular Therapy patients during the evaluation, donor evaluation, peripheral blood cell apheresis, bone marrow harvest, and admission planning phase of care. The BMT/Cellular Therapy Nurse Manager will collaborate the Director of Nursing, HBC and HBC Quality Nurse Manager with the development and implementation of alternative approaches to established care delivery systems.
The BMT/Cellular Therapy Nurse Manager will direct the HBC Nurse Coordinators to ensure that each patient’s clinical care and management is compliant with established internal SOP and external regulations and accreditations. The BMT/Cellular Therapy Nurse Manager will hold staff accountable for patient and family satisfaction. This position uses performance improvement indicators to evaluate staff and patient care, identify areas for staff development, develop and implement improvement strategies. As manager for the BMT/Cellular Therapy team, this position will participate in recruitment, training, coaching, and performance evaluation of the staff. As needed, this position will participate in counseling and disciplinary action, under the direction of the Director of Nursing, HBC.
The BMT/Cellular Therapy Nurse Manager will participate actively in all HBC program quality management activities. Care is provided through the systematic application of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. All components of this process are individualized to meet the physiological, developmental, and cultural needs of the BMT/Cellular Therapy patient population. This manager will collaborate with the BMT Senior Lab Supervisor, and the Director of Nursing, Apheresis to improve utilization and efficiency of services for the BMT/Cellular Therapy patient population. This person bridges the gap between inpatient, outpatient, home care, home, referring providers and other disciplines. This position is actively involved in patient, staff, and provider education.
This person will maintain their own knowledge base related to new procedures, policies, regulations and technologies and growing trends in BMT/Cellular Therapy population.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $130,800 - $274,600 (Annual Rate).

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The clinical services encompass adult and pediatric tumors across three campuses as well as regional satellite locations. The clinical cancer program is one of the largest clinical services at UCSF Health and encompasses roughly 230 non-physician FTEs, 90+ cost centers, and dozens of grants and philanthropic funding sources. At the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, we are truly pioneering care and leaders in all areas of cancer clinical care and research. UCSF Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapies (HBC) provides specialized treatment for acute and chronic blood conditions. These include cancers of the blood and bone marrow as well as nonmalignant blood disorders. The Cellular Therapies Program (including the Cancer Immunotherapy Program (CIP) Clinic) provides the newest forms of treatments including cancer vaccines and cellular therapies to patients of all cancer subspecialties. We have a large inpatient service with 66 beds; an infusion center that is co-located on ACC-4. The growth of cellular therapies has been significant over the past few years. We are a certified REMS treatment center for several FDA-approved CAR-T therapies. We participate in many clinical research trials, and we expect our program to grow as more cellular therapies are approved as standard of care. We also have created our own Home-Grown CAR-T Program with both CD-19 and BCMA CAR-Ts.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- Minimum five (5) years of experience as a registered nurse
- Minimum three (3) years of RN experience in Hematology/BMT/Cellular Therapies
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a nurse supervisor or nurse manager role in a matrixed academic setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, as well as related legislative, accreditation, licensing, and compliance environments
- Proven ability to organize, manage multiple priorities, and delegate work functions efficiently
- Knowledge of current and emerging best practices and technologies in the clinic / center healthcare industry
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and see projects through from inception to completion
- High level of initiative and ability to work independently
- Strong clinic / center patient care management skills. Practice management knowledge in scheduling, customer-service methods, regulatory compliance, accreditation requirements, and / or information technology. Broad knowledge of patient population served and the requirements for the delivery of services
- Strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a climate for effective communication and collaborative decision making
- Strong leadership, fiscal, and operations management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, management, and staff from all disciplines. Ability to create and maintain a goal-oriented climate of teamwork, collaboration, and consistent achievement of objectives
- Knowledge of relevant healthcare information technology and patient care workflows and processes
Preferred Qualifications
- BMTCN (ONCC)
- Master's Degree
- Experience with TJC and FACT accreditation surveys
- Two (2) year of experience as a BMT/Cellular Therapy nurse coordinator in an academic setting
License/Certification
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California and/or licensure in relevant clinical specialty
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
