Job Summary
Involves the provision of integrated and accessible primary and specialty patient care services in a clinic or center environment. Care is provided by clinicians and assistants who are accountable for addressing a large majority of personal health care needs and developing a sustainable partnership with patients. Ensures optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership and / or provision of patient care delivery in healthcare clinics or centers. Promotes shared decision-making at all levels to ensure a shared voice in practices, exchange of ideas, enhanced communication, and continually improved patient services. Management levels may also be responsible for clinic operations. (Note, for only clinic operations, see Ambulatory Administration job function.)
Under general supervision of the ASC Nurse Manager and guided by the procedures of the Medical Center, Ambulatory Services and the ASC, the ASC Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager in ensuring the quality of patient care in the ASC Pre-Op/PACU Areas and serves as a role model for professional nursing practice. This position is responsible for assisting the nurse manager with all aspects of the operation, including but not limited to 1) recruiting, selecting, hiring and training staff, coaching and counseling, and completion of performance evaluations 2) assuring compliance with all regulatory and patient safety goals, 3) developing and implementing policies and procedures that assure a high level of quality care, 4) financial and budgetary aspects of the department, including revenue capture and expense control 5) supports performance improvement initiatives and 6) maintains close working relationship with the specialty practices and supportive services to ensure alignment of goals that meet patient safety and service standards. This position supports the nurse manager in supervising all clinical and clerical staff of the ASC Surgery Center, facilitating positive interaction among staff, patients and other departments. This position assumes full responsibility for the unit in the areas delegated and in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
The Assistant Nurse Manager is expected to assist at the bedside in clinical as needed.
The Pre-Op/PACU Assistant Nurse Manager works collaboratively with the OI Periop management team in providing crop coverage on a management level as well as sharing of staff along the Out-Patient Surgery continuum. Supervises staff involved in providing interdisciplinary clinical / nursing care at a clinic and / or center, such as RNs, PCAs, etc. Assists in ensuring the quality of patient care delivery in assigned clinic(s) and serves as a role model. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $113,500 - $258,100 (Annual Rate).

The UCSF Peninsulay Surgery Center (ASC) I BUrligname is an out-patient surgery center with 4 OR’s.12 Pre-Op/PACU beds. The ASC consists of a multidisciplinary team and provides surgical services for multi-specialties
Required Qualifications
- +2 years of nursing experience in.Pre-Op/PACU
- Proven leadership experience in a clinical practice
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a nursing advocate.
- Proven team building experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and self-development.
- Knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of duties assigned to this position.
- Demonstrated skills to effectively supervise clinicians and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with a clinic(s) / center(s). Strong knowledge of practice operations.
- In depth knowledge of patient care clinical standards and care delivery, systems, external regulations, and internal policies.
- Strong knowledge of human resources management policies, with the ability to train, monitor, evaluate, and document human resources issues and performance, and to participate in decision-making on human resources matters.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply effective solutions.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaborations and problem solving with all levels of management, staff, consultants, and outside agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, and to convey complex clinical and technical information in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong knowledge of business software and specialized applications and data management systems used in clinic / center patient care.( MS Word, Excel and Outlook, EPIC, etc)
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Registered Nurse in the State of California.(RN)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- AHA CPR certification.
