Position Overview:
The Medical Assistant supports patient care services provided by the Lead Poisoning Prevention (LPP) Program. The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing clinical tasks in accordance with all Harris County Public Health (HCPH) and LPP Program protocols. This position will work with the clinical team to create and maintain efficient, patient-centered daily clinic operations while providing comprehensive public health services to all Harris County Public Health patients seeking services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Complete patient health screenings by performing phlebotomy (including capillary and venous draws), blood lead testing, urine collection, pregnancy tests, vital signs, and iron.
- Prepare and label patient samples (blood, sputum, etc.) for transport to appropriate laboratories.
- Provide in-room support for clinic staff during the clinic visits as needed.
- Maintain laboratory and exam rooms in a neat, clean, and orderly manner.
- Inventories supplies and forms; submits items for ordering (via designated software and contract laboratory) as needed.
- Perform data entry and electronic data processing by using the program EMR, Microsoft Excel, and any other related software.
- Stock the clinic with all the equipment necessary for client screening services. Assist with rotating dated stock to prevent loss.
- Perform quality assurance on all needed medical equipment.

Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited community college or business/technical school Medical Assistant program.
Experience:
- Six (6) months of experience in a healthcare setting
Licensure/Certifications:
- American Heart Association CPR Certification
- Must possess a valid TX Driver's License (upon hire).

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
- Full-Time | Grant Funded
- Monday – Friday | 8 am – 5 pm and an occasional Saturday
- Other days and hours as necessary.
- Able to travel within Harris County jurisdiction.
Work Environment:
- This job operates primarily in the field and in a clinical office environment.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Demands:
- This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to twenty (20) pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
