Position Overview:
The Medical Assistant (MA) delivers safe and compassionate care as a vital member of the healthcare team, providing patient-centered care and ensuring patient safety. This role serves patients seeking services from the Clinical Health Services (CHS) Program, working with the clinical team to create and maintain efficient, patient-centered daily clinic operations while providing comprehensive care to all Harris County Public Health patients. The MA operates and adheres to the federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Harris County Public Health (HCPH).
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Perform clinical tasks such as (but not limited to) administering vaccinations, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and conducting basic patient assessments as per the licensed healthcare provider's orders and within the MA's scope of practice.
- Collect and document patient medical history, vital signs, personal information, and current health concerns, ensuring accurate entry and updates in electronic medical record or required software.
- Provide patient education as assigned by the medical provider within MA standard scope of practice including (but not limited to) treatment procedures, medications, and follow-up care using in person and telehealth modalities.
- Prepare examination rooms and patients, assist provider during exams, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are available.
- Ensure examination rooms and medical equipment are clean, sanitized, and organized, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, ensuring optimal time management for clinic operations.
- Collaborate with the Clinical Team to deliver comprehensive patient care and communicate effectively to ensure coordinated care and optimal patient outcomes.
- Manage inventory and order medical and office supplies for optimal clinic operations.

Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Completion of a community college or business/technical school Medical Assistant program
Experience:
- Six (6) months experience in a healthcare setting
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid TX Driver's License
- American Heart Association CPR certification

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
- Full-Time | Regular
- Monday - Friday | 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
- Must be willing to flex work hours when required, including weekends.
- Able to travel within Harris County as needed.
Work Environment:
- This position operates in a medical mobile unit clinic environment.
- This position also operates in a standard medical office environment with standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers.
Physical Demands:
- Persons in these positions frequently lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 10 lbs. and occasionally move objects weighing up to 20 lbs., and sometimes, but rarely, up to 50 lbs.
