Registered Nurse Team Lead
A Team Leader is a registered professional nurse who provides staff support, and works in conjunction with the Unit Manager and Unit Director. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, the Team Leader works to improve patient care and experience through effective staff communication, observation, and measurement of specific interventions/practices and their associated outcomes.
The Team Leader plays a pivotal role in fostering relationships with staff for retention, recruitment, mentoring, and patient and staff satisfaction. The Team Leader fosters teamwork and collaboration with patients and the interdisciplinary team.
The Team Leader plays a significant role in assisting the nurse manager in achieving clinical and financial goals along with management of human/material resources as delegated. The Team Leader will primarily be the shift charge nurse or will work in staffing while supporting the orientation and development of other nursing staff.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Upholds all job responsibilities of a Registered Nurse.
- Personal characteristics: Honest, calm, reliable, compassionate, and caring to patients and coworkers. Demonstrates integrity at all times. Ensures a positive influence on morale and emotional maturity.
- Direct patient care and assessment; relationship-based care through customer service rounding.
- Initiates and maintains positive and professional relationships with patients and coworkers.
- Takes responsibility for personal development and supports a learning environment.
- Real-time staff education, mentoring, and coaching of staff relating to care, communication, and unit operations with the purpose of supporting excellent patient care.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Experience: 1 year of nursing experience.
- Licensure: Currently licensed in the State of New York as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Certification: BLS, ACLS within 6 months of hire
Physical Requirements:
- Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
