Department Overview

The Medical ICU strives to provide the highest level of nursing care to our patients and families, and to ensure positive patient outcomes through evidence-based nursing practice, all within the setting of a healthy work environment. The Medical Intensive Care Unit utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to the care we provide to our patients: 40kg weight minimum, age generally not less than 16 years with no upper age limit.

Diagnoses Include But Are Not Limited To

Severe Septic Shock
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome ( ARDS)
Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
Organ Failures
Bone Marrow Transplant
Post Cardiac and Respiratory Arrest
Alcohol and drug withdraw
Patients also may present with extensive preexisting co-morbidities requiring the services of teams such as Nephrology, Pain Service, Infectious Disease, etc.

Function/Duties of Position

$52.11-$86.81 per hour, based on RN Degree and level of experience

May be required to provide continuing care and monitoring of patients in locations outside of MICU including MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, and Radiology.

Able to advance plan of care when there is a lack of continuity of patient assignments

Integrate into a diversity of team cultures, including:
Speaking up about questionable assignments, identifying alternatives
Inquiring about performance improvement changes
Actively participating in huddles
Seeking resources to support completion of work when going to float to another unit within shift

Required Qualifications

BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
BLS must not expire during orientation
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Experienced Nurse

External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
