RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee, performs assigned surgical “scrub” duties and maintains sterile techniques for all surgical procedures.
• Prepares the patient, operating room, equipment, and instruments for surgery, maintaining aseptic techniques in accordance with nursing practice and standards of care.
• May be responsible for the assessment, treatment, or care of patients of all ages. Must be competent in the interpretations of the patient’s self-report or behavior and the information must be interpreted with an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, & chronological maturtion process. Treatment should be individualized & reflect an understanding of the developmental needs & range of treatment for each patient.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
• Essential: standing, walking, stooping/bending, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, lifting usual amount of 35 lbs up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling usual amount of 50 pounds of force, carrying usual amount of 35 lbs, reaching above/at/below shoulder, repetitive arm/hand motions, static/frequent gripping of an object for prolonged periods.
• Operates computer, copier, printer, fax machine, multi-line telephone, and various surgical equipment, instrumentation and supplies.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Not substantially subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
• Exposed to chemicals, body fluids, communicable diseases.
• Required Personal Protective Equipment: Eye protection, gown, mask, mask with face shield, non-sterile/sterile medical gloves, CAPR.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:
• Completion of a certified Surgical Technologist, Operating Room Technician or comparable training program; or three (3) years experience as an OR Technician or Surgical Technologist in an acute care or outpatient setting.
• Association of Surgical Technologists Certification preferred.
• Current BLS/HCP CPR certification.
EXPERIENCE:
• Experience to demonstrate:
o Strong organizational and self-motivational skills.
o Ability to deal with patients/visitors tactfully and courteously.
o Ability to work and maintain composure under constantly changing situations with numerous interruptions.
