Assistant Nurse Manager - Med/Surg

South Pointe Hospital’s 6 Medical Unit is a fast-paced unit that cares for patients with a variety of medical conditions and diseases, such pneumonia, congestive heart failure, infectious disease, asthma, and COPD exacerbation, and is very experienced in ventilator management for chronic ventilator patients.
A caregiver in this position works 7:00AM – 3:30PM/7:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Support the Nurse Manager with supervising and supporting RNs and other nursing support caregivers.
- Supervise admissions, conduct assessment of patient's needs and initiate nursing care plans.
- Evaluate and document patient progress.
- Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives and objectives for the unit.
- Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
- Serve as a liaison between the manager, caregivers and other areas within the organization.
- Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
- Prepare schedule of work assignments assuring adequate coverage.
- Participate in and support quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives.
- Assist in orienting new caregivers.
- Participate in continuing education and in-service educational programs.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN).
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Two years of recent clinical nursing experience.
- Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills.

Physical Requirements:
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
