as a 0.8 FTE in the care of adult and pediatric dermatology patients. 3 days a week are dedicated to general and pediatric dermatology clinical research visits and 1 day a week is dedicated to pediatric dermatology clinic visits. The APP is a valued member of the care team and will join a busy practice that includes multiple Dermatology attending physicians and residents. The APP works under the supervision of the physician team responsible for providing comprehensive care for patients with dermatology needs. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, research, teaching, and provides leadership to the organization and profession.

Required Training and Experience:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
Preferred Experience:
Clinical research experience and 2 years of PA or APRN experience.
Job Duties:
Provides direct care to patients through the following activities: • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline • Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief o Skin biopsy o KOH exam o Scabies prep o Cryotherapy o Intralesional injection • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician • Documents and bills for direct care provided • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law • Travel to different clinics in the tri-County area may be required • Work directly with MUSC’s dermatology research faculty and staff, including clinical research coordinators and residents, while on campus in MUSC’s Department offices and clinic sites. o Recruit and enroll patients into clinical research trials o Perform clinical research tasks such as physician assessments, obtain informed consent, vital signs, ECG’s, phlebotomy, PEF testing, tape stripping, pregnancy tests, administer questionnaires/e-diaries and obtain saliva and urine samples as required per the study protocol o Carry out skin biopsies and administer study medications as needed under close supervision of the Program Director/Principal Investigator o Submit IRB applications, renewals and amendments, as well as create and complete source documents.
Additional Job Description
Graduation from an approved Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies. Must be licensed in the state of South Carolina, and certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
