Depending on the education, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as an Advance Practice Specialist, Clinical Nurse Specialist (4 or 5), or as a Clinical Nurse Educator 4.

DESCRIPTION

In collaboration with the education and nursing leadership teams, the Advanced Practice Specialist/Clinical Nurse Specialist/Educator (APS/CNS/CNE) will provide education, consultation, and leadership to advance evidence-based practice and quality outcomes within the department and organization. This position is responsible for assessing, implementing, and evaluating department/unit-based and organizational learning activities. The APS/CNS/CNE works closely with managers, staff, nursing leadership, and inter- and intra-professional teams to develop innovative, evidence-based, and cost-effective solutions that achieve high-quality outcomes.
The APS/CNS/CNE partners with the nurse manager to lead the nursing clinical practice area, utilizing specialized knowledge and skills in major areas of focus, including patient/family care, nursing practice, and organizational/system improvements. This role encompasses various functions, including clinical expert, consultant, leader, educator, evidence-based practice advocate, inter- and intradepartmental liaison, and resource professional. By educating, guiding, and mentoring nursing staff and healthcare team members, the APS/CNS/CNE ensures the provision of high-quality patient care at both local and system levels.
Expert clinical care, leadership, education, and quality improvement are provided through advanced clinical expertise and nursing leadership. The APS/CNS/CNE influences outcomes through expert collaboration with healthcare team members and provides education to staff to ensure the highest standards of patient care and staff development within the Obstetrics (OB) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) settings. The APS/CNS/CNE leads a program or area of nursing practice within the organization and drives high-quality, evidence-based nursing practice. Overall, this role enhances patient outcomes, fosters staff development, and advances nursing practice, performing additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Master’s Degree in Nursing (or related area) is required and/or an equivalent combination of experience/training. Required as an APS/CNS, preferred as a CNE.
Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification issued by the state of California or licensure / certification in another advanced nurse practice discipline.
BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Five (5+) or more years of relevant RN experience.
In-depth knowledge of the obstetrical and infant specialties, to include diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice and patient / family education and resources.
Recent experience in developing educational programs, materials, competencies, and skill validation for clinical staff.
Demonstrates ability to develop learning to a wide range of audiences and cultures using adult learning strategies and a variety of in-person and remote instructional methodologies.
Excels in leading and working with a diverse team, fostering an inclusive work environment that encourages diverse perspectives.
Recent experience with quality improvement or evidence-based practice change projects and organization change.
Excellent interpersonal effectiveness, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Works effectively with multicultural patients and families with an understanding of the unique challenges faced by different communities.
Proficient with information systems and computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Zoom.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Specialty certification in obstetrical or neonatal nursing.
- Experience in perinatal care coordination or related clinical experience.
- Evidence of training in health equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Experience collaborating with community organizations or external groups to understand and address the unique health needs of underserved populations.
- Experience developing and implementing programs that address health disparities and promote equitable access to healthcare services.
- Experience working in an academic medical center and/or a Magnet designated hospital.
- Experience presenting at professional meetings and effectively communicating in online platforms and in-person formats.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $116,000 - $252,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $55.56 - $120.79
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
