Job Description:

The OB department provides a positive team of professionals working collaboratively to provide the best patient focused care to our families. In this role, you’ll work closely with physicians in providing patient care, communication and education. You’ll also have the opportunity to follow the family through the entire birth process through labor, delivery and during postpartum until the patient is discharged. The RN will also:

Provide care and education for the OB patient and newborn, demonstrates good assessment skills and utilizes critical thinking.
Focus on best practice
Demonstrate complete and thorough documentation
Work closely with the physicians in providing patient care.
Demonstrate good communication skills in communicating with physicians, co-workers and patients
Help in maintaining the department and assisting with tasks related to the unit.

Qualifications include:

Current state of Wisconsin licensure.
Current CPR certification.
STABLE certification within 6 months of hire.
NRP certification within 6 months of hire.
ACLS certification within one year of hire.
A minimum of one year OB experience strongly preferred.

Essential duties include:

Communicates with patient as to why they have come to OB, assesses OB patient and places patient on the external fetal monitor (EFM)
Communicates with the OB Physicians, providing patient information, obtaining orders, etc.
Provide Non-stress test and communicates the results to OB physician
Provides care for the outpatient based on the OB physician’s order
Provides labor support
Provides support and assistance during delivery for both the patient and OB physician
Accompanies OB patients to OR for cesarean deliveries.
Cares for the OB patient following a cesarean delivery
Assesses newborns and provides care for them
Documents completely on the OB patient and newborn
Performs the NBHS exam on the newborn
Assists OB physicians with circumcision of newborn
Provides education to OB patient and family related to themselves and their newborn
Provides breastfeeding support and education
Communicates with other departments in providing care to the OB patient and newborn
Works independently, use critical thinking skills, be organized, and show time management skills.
Helps maintain the unit by restocking, making chart packs, setting up rooms, cleaning tub, etc.
Remains current with NRP, STABLE and CPR certifications.
Continues to stay current in OB education, guidelines, policies and procedures.
