Job Summary
Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $105.99 - $137.30 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description
The General and Specialty Surgery unit provides care for post-surgical patients undergoing complex abdominal, oral, head & neck, plastics and urological procedures. The unit serves a diverse adult and geriatric patient population.
Some of the more common surgical procedures include: surgical bowel resections, partial pancreatectomy, gastric bypass, gastrectomy, liver resections as well as complex surgical wounds and fistulas. Urology patients include those receiving treatment for prostatectomy, nephrectomy, bladder tumors, kidney stones and urethral abnormalities.
The Otolaryngology population includes patients requiring major head and neck surgery with muscle flaps or skin graft reconstruction as well as tracheotomy.
The Plastic population includes patients requiring free flaps, and reconstruction s/p mastectomies.
The Oral Maxillofacial Surgery patient population include jaw reconstruction and complex teeth extractions.
The unit provides continuous oxygen and basic telemetry monitoring to 14 beds on 13 Long which are centrally monitored in the observation room on the 14th floor.
Nurses are trained in wound / skin care, intravenous therapy, diabetic management, care of central lines, continuous bladder irrigation, drain management, pain management with epidural and patient controlled analgesia, pulmonary care, tracheotomy care, medication administration, patient falls risk assessment and prevention, monitoring fluid and electrolyte and monitoring vital signs along with continuous oxygen monitoring.
The interdisciplinary team includes a Patient Care Manager, Assistant Patient Care Manager, Registered Nurses (RN), Patient Care Assistants (PCA), Unit Service Coordinators (USC), Nurse Practitioner (NP) and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is available for consultation. Other members of the interdisciplinary team include Social Work, Case Management, Physical Therapy, Occupational therapy and dietary.
Required Qualifications
- One year recent clinical RN experience with post surgical patients (experience with drains/wound care)
- Active State of California Registered Nurse licensure
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
- The flexibility to orient and work in all UCSF Health locations
Preferred Qualifications
- Telemetry monitoring experience
- Previous clinical RN experience in an academic medical center
- BSN
License/Certification
- Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
- Active American Heart Association CPR Certification
