Nurse, LPN (Ascension Parish Jail) - Labor Grade 113 / Pay Range: $19.63 - $27.67

SUMMARY

The LPN works under the direct supervision of the Nursing Supervisor and responsible for administering health programs and providing professional LPN care to inmates at the Ascension Parish Jail in a variety of situations.

MAJOR DUTIES

Treats patients as directed by the physician or psychiatrist

Works with patient to monitor his/her response to medication

Answers patient and questions about medication, take vital signs, and provides physician or psychiatrist with relevant information

Participates in after-hours on-call rotation, holidays, and weekends

Documents all interactions with patients according to clinic policy and state/federal licensing requirements

Assists counselors by providing information relevant to the patient’s treatment

Participates in case conferences and clinical staffing

Responsible for the infection control program, teaching of universal precautions to prevent infection, providing staff with infection control supplies, maintenance of first-aid supplies, and the provision of basic first-aid to clients and staff as needed

Responsible for scheduling and maintenance of records on annual staff inoculations

Any other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: completion of an accredited LPN program and a minimum of (1) year directly related experience is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, or REGISTRATIONS

The incumbent is required to have a current, and the ability to maintain, Louisiana state driver’s license.

The incumbent is subject to initial and random drug testing.

The incumbent is required to have a current, and the ability to maintain, Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Louisiana and Certified Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications.
