Memory Care NP Jobs Overview

As a nurse practitioner in memory care, you play a critical role in the quality of life for your patients who have conditions such as dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s. Increasingly, advance practice providers are needed to treat this growing patient population. Your duties include performing assessments and interventions, but you are also able to spot early signs of illness in these patients who may not be able to communicate when they aren’t feeling well.

If you’re looking for full-time, part-time, contract, temporary, or per diem work, IntelyCare has memory care NP jobs, as well as related opportunities such as home health NP jobs and psychiatric NP jobs. Explore your next career move today.

Memory Care Nurse Practitioner Education and Certifications

To become a nurse practitioner who works in memory care, you must have earned either a master’s of science in nursing (MSN) or a doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) from an accredited program. You will also need to hold an unobstructed nursing license and basic life support (BLS) certification. Some of the specialty roles you may consider include:

  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP (AGANP)
  • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP (AGPNP)
  • Psychiatric Mental Health NP (PMHNP)

To deepen your expertise, explore Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification in Dementia Capable Care (DCC), or train to be a certified dementia practitioner (CDP). Some employers may look for candidates with prior experience in acute care, dementia care, or neuroscience.

Resume and Cover Letter for NP Memory Care Positions

Your resume and cover letter will have a better chance at standing out from the competition if you can align your skills to the needs of a specific job. For instance, if a facility is seeking an NP who can “establish and uphold cooperative working relationships with admin staff, clinical team, and academic personnel,” and you have related experience, include the phrase in your NP resume.

Use your cover letter to complement your resume by writing about your interpersonal skills and collaborative approach to care. If you need further guidance, our NP cover letter sample can offer inspiration.

Interviewing for a Memory Care NP Job

Job interviews are great opportunities to present the value you can bring to a facility or unit. Highlight any relevant professional successes that you might hope to replicate in a new job. Maybe you helped initiate de-escalation training in a previous position, or were recognized for educating families about their loved ones’ cognitive conditions. To take some of the pressure off your shoulders, review typical NP interview questions and develop responses that highlight your passion for the work you do.
