Education and Certifications for CNA Jobs in Emergency Room Settings

The steps to become a nursing assistant differ by state, but in general, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have completed an approved nursing assistant education program. You must also pass any certification exam required by your state. Note that your CNA certification may be transferable and allow you to work in a different state.

In addition, it’s likely that employers posting CNA ER jobs will want candidates to have a minimum of six months of acute care experience and hold basic life support (BLS) certification.

Resume and Cover Letter for ER CNA Jobs

To increase the odds that your CNA resume gets noticed by an employer, make sure it mirrors what you read in that employer’s job ad. For instance, let’s say a hospital’s ad says it’s looking for a CNA who “can perform basic care and comfort standards, as well as be familiar with the patient population needs in the designated work area.” If you have relevant experience, be sure to repeat that phrase in your resume.

Then, in your CNA cover letter, give an example that demonstrates your knowledge of the facility’s patient population and how you strive to serve them. Taking these steps on your application helps align your skills with the employer’s specific needs.

Interviewing for CNA Emergency Department Jobs

CNA jobs in emergency room environments demand a lot from a nursing professional. In such fast-paced settings, it’s essential that you keep a calm, focused mindset. A job interview provides you with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate your capability. Take some pressure off your shoulders by reviewing typical CNA interview questions and answers. Practice your responses so that you feel more assured in your performance.

ER CNA Salary

The average annual salary for CNAs working in general medical and surgical hospitals is $40,840. Your experience, location, employer, and facility type can impact what you earn. Some of the states that pay the highest salaries to nursing assistants include:
