Job Summary
Responsible for developing and maintaining efficient day-to-day operations within the Heart Institute. Responsible for clinical practice and efficient operations within the Cath Lab, Cardiovascular OR, and Cardiac Sedation Nurses. Accountable for setting of standards, supervision of personnel, directing and developing staff, collaborating with physicians and multi-disciplinary professional staff, and providing physical and psychological support for patients and their friends and families. Enforces professional staff behaviors that facilitate positive relationships among colleagues, physicians, administrators, and other hospital personnel and coordination with other disciplines and departments to achieve the mission and goals of the Heart Institute. Maintain presence within the national and international congenital heart disease community to ensure the Heart Institute, specifically Cardiac Nursing, is on the forefront of practice improvements and market changes.
Job Specific Duties
- Coordinates and collaborates with stakeholders such as multidisciplinary teams, internal, and external customers to create work relationships that drive performance and quality outcomes in a timely and effective manner. Works with nursing functions related to Magnet reaccreditation and nursing in house committees as requested.
- Identifies LEAN projects and selects tools to review and evaluate current process state.
- Margin: Manage budget(s) effectively and makes Leader aware of any variances in revenue or operating expenses greater than 5%. Checks monthly management reporting to ensure all expenses. Monitors and impacts cost containment while enhancing revenue streams to meet the fiscal goals according to hospital policies and procedures. Maintains a comprehensive staffing plan/model that is aligned with budget and key quality indicators. Oversees the charging/billing processes in the unit and reconciles charges daily to ensure charges go into EMR correctly and accurately. Consults with outside resources when questions come up about revenue/charge capture and collaborates with back end to resolve billing/compliance issues.
- People: Oversees and supervises day to day operations including reacting effectively to unplanned circumstances, demands, and challenges of respective areas of responsibility, assuring quality services,and patient directed care. Coordinates and collaborates with stakeholders such as multidisciplinary teams and internal & external customers to create work relationships. Directly manages personnel resources from hiring to employment separation while supervising staff through orientation, training, and annual performance reviews. Performs personnel procedures including payroll, time, and attendance and progressive disciplinary action in a timely and accurate manner.
- Develops educational programs and trains staff in related skills, values, and career development to ensure employee engagement and retention goals are achieved.
- Performs administrative duties such as collecting, analyzing, and reporting data pertinent to each department.
- Active participation in the Heart Institute Taskforce. Routinely sought out as a resource representing the Clinical Nursing operations by others.
- Assists in the onboarding of new physician and staff talent to ensure smooth operations. Communicates any issues to direct supervisor as needed to timely address physician or staff concerns.
- Quality/Safety: Performs administrative of collecting, analyzing, and reporting data pertinent to each department. Review quality indicators include the tracking of major/minor complication rates and communication of those monthly to management. Participates in life wings as a method of process improvement.
- Service: Coordinates the unit's customer service indicators including the preparation, analysis, and submission of required reports. Completes daily patient and staff rounds to provide updates on needed improvements and successes. Updates and communicates outcomes and information to staff during meetings or huddles. Establishes standards, provides training, and enforces compliance of departmental & hospital customer service program. Recognizes staff members who are identified by families and helps embed a culture of service excellence with all staff.
- Support the hospital’s strategic initiatives and manage the Performance Pillar Metrics on their Monthly Scorecard. Regular rounding is critical to gathering feedback and making effective decisions that will improve leader’s metrics on their Monthly Scorecard.
- Adhere to the Code of Business and Legal Conduct, the Ethics and Compliance Program and the no retaliation policies. Comply with all laws regulations and company policies governing the delivery of quality health care services.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing
- Registered Nurse Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association CPR BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association ACLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment within 6 months of hire
- American Heart Association PALS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment within 6 months of hire
- 1-3 years of experience in Cardiac Cath and Electrophysiology Lab or Cardiovascular OR
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Master's degree from an accredited School of Nursing preferred.
- 1-3 years of experience as a Cardiovascular Services Manager preferred
- Certification after two years is highly preferred.
- Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
- Ability to solve department issues and maintains clinical practices.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Competent in nursing skills required for designated scope of responsibility.
- Knowledge of business and management principles
- Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office)
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships
- Ability to effectively plan, delegate, and/or supervise the work of others.
