Program and Job Description:
The Office of School Health (OSH) is a joint program of the New York City Department of Education and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. OSH is responsible for promoting the health of the 1.3 million students enrolled in approximately 1,800 public and non-public schools in New York City. Services to students include case management of chronic health problems, preventive health screening, urgent care, medication administration, preventive counseling, reproductive health services, health education, referral for care and assurance of ongoing effective treatment.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Under the direction of the Director of Nursing, and with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the Assistant Director of Nursing - Quality and Training will be responsible for the following
Assisting in the administration and development of the nursing program with line responsibility for direct supervision/management of Central Office Nursing Staff who are responsible for staff development, nurse recruiting, hiring, and quality improvement.
Overseeing the OSH Nursing Diabetes team, ensuring compliance, timely reporting, and quality support for students living with diabetes as outlined in lawsuit settlements and OSH policy.
Overseeing and developing OSH Nursing Unit's recruitment and retention strategies to ensure a quality, stable, and consistent nurse workforce.
Collaborating with entities who train nurses (universities, colleges, high schools) to establish pipelines for recruiting nurses.
Collaborating with Executive Director and Deputy Director of Nursing in reviewing and developing manuals, policies and procedures, and other guidance and protocols relevant to Office of School Health Nursing.
In conjunction with Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Assistant Directors of Nursing, participates in formulating and interpreting policies and procedures related to nursing program development and central-based staff performance.
Overseeing design, dissemination, and implementation of health-related educational activities.
Oversight for analyzing, evaluating, and recommending changes in training programs for central nursing and school-based staff.
Assisting and providing guidance to support borough based regional/activities and/or education.
Working closely with the Contract Agency Nurse unit to create trainings, resources, and supports for contract agency nurses and staff to ensure quality of all school nurses. This may include overseeing, delivering, and observing agency nurse training activities.
Serving as primary advisor to the Executive Director and Deputy Director of Nursing on all nursing-related issues; and In the absence of the Executive Director of Nursing and Deputy Director of Nursing, may serve as nursing liaison to other Department of Health & Mental Hygiene programs and Department of Education as well as to City, State and Federal agencies.

--Strong knowledge of nursing skills
--Ability to maintain effective working relationship with all levels of management
--Strong analytical, organizational, follow through and active listening skills
--Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing; and
--Good computer skills using Word, Excel and Power Point.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York state license as a Registered Nurse, a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited college and a master's degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related field, plus four years of recent experience in public health or hospital nursing or a related field; at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative or educational capacity, or in supervision of professional public health nursing personnel working in any of the above mentioned areas; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must possess a valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse, and a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited college; and must possess the 18 months of specialized experience as described in "1" above.
