The Department of Pediatrics- Division of Allergy and Immunology has an exciting opportunity for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) administers nursing care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, and ensures the health, comfort, and safety of patients. The incumbent provides quality care to designated patients and takes on various responsibilities, such as participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, as well as cooperating with the members of the nursing and medical staff and other hospital departments.
Core Responsibilities:
- Collects patient assessment data, notifies appropriate nurse of actual or potential problems, and needs on an ongoing basis.
- Records patient information concisely, accurately, and completely.
- Administers medications and performs treatments and procedures for all patients as assigned. Assists with preparation of patient materials or correspondence that RNs, ARNPs, or MDs utilize to communicate with organizations within or outside the University.
- Assists in preoperative and postoperative health teaching for patients and families.
- Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans.
- Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas with team members.
- Performs more-complex nursing activities as competence increases.
- Communicates frequently with team leader regarding patients’ physical and mental conditions.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies, procedures, and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
- Responsible for patient triage, attending clinics, calling pharmacy for prescription refills.
- Preparation of charts: review prior orders, ensure that results are obtained and properly documented into EMR
- Prepares patient and assists providers during patient examinations and medical treatment.
- Monitor and assess patient's physical and emotional well-being, and report any changes or concerns to the appropriate medical staff.
- Maintains appropriate supply of medications, immunizations, and general nursing supplies
- Prepares and stocks exam rooms
- Participates in all phases of education and maintenance of records
- Travel to other clinics to coverage, in or out of medical campus.
- Upkeeps credentials, license and BLS.
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory and safety guidelines.
- Provides school notes, documents necessary for follow up visits.
- Ensures that new initiatives are implemented, and goals are met.
- Teamwork and effective communication are of the utmost importance.
- Relates effectively with other staff for continuity of care.
- Assist provider with Nexplanon procedures, gynecological exams, lab draws, and patient education.
- Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with division policy and procedure as directed by medical staff
- Must be comfortable educating patients and their families on health maintenance and disease prevention strategies.
- Adheres to confidential practices involving minors.
- Performs various testing which may include but is not limited to - urinalysis, urine pregnancy tests, throat swabs.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality of patient's records in accordance with UHealth policy and HIPAA regulations
- Demonstrates empathy and compassion towards patients and their families, creating a positive and supportive environment.
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities accordingly.
- Performs other duties as necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the division’s clinical services.
- Previous experience with Pediatrics, Adolescent or Young Adult population preferred.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid State of Florida LPN license
- BLS from American Heart Association only
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
