Overview
Under the guidance of the AVP of Nursing Education and Professional Practice and System Chief Nursing Officer, the Clinical Nurse Educator functions in the roles of Educator, Facilitator, Consultant, Change Agent, and Leader. The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) participates in the development of standardized educational initiatives across the Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) organization and plays a vital role in leading change in pursuit of improved nursing practice and professional development. The Clinical Nurse Educator promotes a positive image and maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers. The Clinical Nurse Educator may be required to travel to other ARH facilities to provide education, under the direction of the AVP of Nursing Education and Professional Practice.
Responsibilities
- Conducts educational needs assessments using a variety of methods/tools.
- Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, creating a climate with supports learning across the organization.
- Coordinates and facilitates nursing orientation and competency evaluation of new staff to the organization, and well as training/education for new equipment and new/revised clinical care policies and protocols.
- Develops and delivers evidence-based educational programs and offerings.
- Utilizes best practices in educational content delivery.
- Collaborates with Community Chief Nursing officer, local nursing leadership and other disciplines to create a robust educational environment while fostering teambuilding and leadership development.
- Provides point of care assistance and support to assist nursing staff with clinical skills development and critical thinking.
- Evaluates effectiveness of educational programs utilizing best practices.
- Utilizes a variety of evidence-based instructional techniques.
- Adjusts educational content and teaching strategies based on appropriate learner needs, utilizing various media and formats.
- Collaborates with and supports all ARH facilities in developing and delivering educational programs as determined by the AVP Nursing Education and Professional Practice.
- Assumes ownership and responsibility in attaining, developing, and maintaining educational and instructional expertise.
- Facilitates centralized nursing orientation.
- Oversees the onboarding of student nurses and clinical faculty to assure adherence to ARH and regulatory guidelines.
- Oversees, in collaboration with Nursing Leadership, Human Resources, and applicable Schools of Nursing, compliance with the Nurse Extern Program.
- Responds to changes in nursing practice and develops programs to support these changes.
- Ensures that educational programs are congruent with organizational missions, values, and goals.
- Maintains flexibility when managing multiple roles/responsibilities.
- Interprets and communicates across multiple disciplines.
- Promotes a safe and healthy work environment.
- Serves as a role mode to promote education, professionalism, excellence, and safety.

Qualifications
Education:
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
BSN Required or have plan to obtain within 2 years
Master’s Degree Preferred
Work Experience:
Three (3) years clinical nursing experience required *Five (5) years or more preferred
Minimum of 1 year nursing education experience required *Three (3) or more preferred
Licenses and Certifications:
Current license to practice nursing in the states of KY or WV depending on state of residency.
Professional Certification Required or plan to obtain within 2 years of employment.
BLS required upon hire.
ACLS required within 6 months of employment.
PALS required within 6 months of employment.
TNCC required within 1 year.
De-escalation training (ARH adopted) required within 6 months.
Designated Instructor Certification Requirements
BLS Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
ACLS Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
PALS Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
De-Escalation Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
TNCC Instructor designation with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
Other Instructor designations as needed with minimal requirement of teaching two courses annually.
