Position Summary:
Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the DON has shared responsibility for directing the Clinical Departments and ensuring that policy, program and service is consistent with the Hospital’s mission and values. Oversees and monitors compliance with Hospital/Corporate policies and procedures and various regulatory/governmental agencies. Manages the Registry program and assures staffing grids are maintained. Serves as primary back-up to Chief Nursing Officer.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assures regularly scheduled meetings including unit meetings and shift reports are held; maintains logs of all meetings
- Secures compliance with licensing and accreditation standards including Joint Commission, CMS, DCFS and DHS.
- Monitors the patient treatment milieu to ensure excellence in clinical care and uses an inter-disciplinary approach to improve care.
- Reviews reports on Performance Indicators with Chief Nursing Officer, conducts need assessments and implements performance plan to maintain internal/external patient care, medication, and safety standards.
- Participates on Performance Improvement Teams to address specific improvement opportunities within Riveredge Hospital.
- Ensure that staff adheres to Hospital standard practice by auditing, promulgating information throughout the facility, and ensuring staff competency regarding orientation, training, and patient education.
- Respond in a timely fashion to all complaints from patients, families, and outside stakeholders.
- Promotes open communication within units to enhance performance and teamwork.
- Works with other hospital departments, including Marketing, Social Work, and Assessment & Referral to assure service standards are met and maintained.
- Partners with CNO to reviews daily staffing in relation to census and acuity levels and adjusts staff to achieve optimal patient outcomes while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
- Acts as a role model for all staff and provides mentoring and guidance as appropriate to staff members.
In addition to the primary responsibilties listed above, the candidate may be expected to perform additional duties as needed to support the team and facility goals.

Qualifications - Minimum BSN Degree, MSN preferred, with commensurate psychiatric experience.
- A minimum of three (3) years experience in a leadership role in a hospital setting, preferably behavioral.
- Licensed as a registered Nurse in Illinois. A thorough knowledge of JCAHO, Medicare, OSHA regulation and all other state and federal Regulatory standards.
