Department OverviewThe pre-procedure assessment center is a team of nurses working prior to hospital arrival with all patients and families to ensure a consistent, comprehensive preparation for anesthesia. This team works through review of patient medical records, verbal conversation with parents, use of multiple patient digital health platforms and as members of the multi-disciplinary healthcare team. Collaborating with multi-disciplinary team to holistically meet needs of the patient and family, this professional nursing team decreases risk to the patient planning to receive anesthesia and decreases delays and cancelation of surgical procedures.
Position SummaryThe Pre Procedure Assessment Center Registered Nurse works to prepare patients and families prior to hospital arrival. Responsible for facilitating family participation in digital patient health platforms, this role serves as an expert in the utilization of these platforms. Collaborating with the multi-disciplinary team, external clinics and resources, this role works to ensures comprehensive preparation of all aspects of pre hospital care including but not limited to prompt, accurate complete patient pre- registration, prior authorization, medical, social and other financial and resources needed. This position is located within the Peri-op Pre Procedure Assessment Center environment and has no direct patient interaction. Hours of work will vary in order to meet patient care needs.
*Registered Nurse
*Current BLS
*Two years recent perioperative nursing experience preferred
*Prefer pediatric or peri-anesthesia nursing certification or obtained within 6 months
*Prefer experience with facilitation and coordination of prior authorization
*Prefer familiarity with revenue cycle management including GE Centricity or similar billing management, patient demographics, reporting and analytics
*Prefer familiarity with CPT and diagnostic coding
*Prefer fluency in writing and speaking; Spanish or Somali
Education:
*BSN/BAN Preferred
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
*Understanding of and adherence to organizational risk, compliance, regulatory and accrediting bodies guidelines
*Ability to influence through excellent communication and collaboration with all patients and families, multi-disciplinary team members, all internal departments and external clinics
*Extensive experience with complex pediatric patients and families
*Technical knowledge and competence utilizing multi modal platforms for meeting peri-operative patient and family pre hospital requirements
*Familiarity with centralized scheduling and registration Understanding of specialty clinic operations
*Understanding of patient insurance and implications of payor mix, public and private insurance coverage as well as the impact of inadequate insurance coverage to the family and organization
*Ability to provide wholistic patient and family evaluations prior to hospital arrival including but not limited to assistance and or referral for needs identified primarily through the use of the digital patient health platforms and PPAC standards, this includes internal/external referrals and necessary coordination of needed pre hospital arrival appointments
*Ability to assess and immediately address issues related to social determinants of health including but not limited to internal referrals to social work, Children's Healthcare Legal Partnership and or consultation with risk management
*Demonstrated ability to function as part of a team and form positive, collaborative relationships with patients and families, Children's staff, external clinics and community resources
*Excellent critical thinking skills; demonstration of leadership abilities and an established history of independent decision making
The posted pay range represents rates for a grouping of multiple jobs within a salary grade. We carefully consider a wide range of factors including but not limited to market indicators for the specific role, the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate, and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Children’s Minnesota.
