As an expert clinician, is responsible for the coordination of all systems/services to ensure an organized, multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of care to the Orthopaedic total joint patients. As the coordinator of care, treats all internal and external physicians, staff, patients, and families as valued customers striving to provide advocacy and service. This clinician works directly with the Orthopaedic Joint Surgeons/Team and is the liaison between the outpatient and inpatient care areas.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a registered professional nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Three (3) years of specialty nursing experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
2. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
3. Orthopaedic Nurses Certification (OCN).
EXPERIENCE:
1. Five (5) years of nursing experience in orthopaedics.

1. Assures the delivery of comprehensive orthopaedic care through the coordination and provision of expert patient care.
2. Facilitates scheduling of appropriate outpatient and inpatient visits as required to ensure timely access to medical care.
3. Develops a system to ensure patient scheduling for appropriate imaging (MRI,CT,etc.) and/or interdisciplinary assessments and interventions is done in as few visits as possible.
4. Coordination of care as the initial point of contact, throughout outpatient and inpatient visits, and all follow up needs.
5. Ensures effective communication and collaboration among the health care team members, addresses inter- and intra-departmental issues. Maintains written/verbal communication with referring institutions, physicians, and insurance companies, as indicated.
6. Teaches patient and family pre- and post-operative joint classes.
7. Conducts home assessment and need for assistive devices.
8. Participates in post-operative phone calls and responsible to return pages and phone calls in a timely manner.
9. Works closely with Medical Staff and Ancillary Services to plan, coordinate and carry out the multidisciplinary plan of care specific to each patient’s individual needs.
10. Ensures the medical plan is carried out by evaluating patient response to interventions.
11. Communicates the plan of care to other departments and health care providers to support optimal patient outcomes.
12. Coordinates patient needs between services & disciplines.
13. Carries out Orthopaedic protocols, clinical guidelines, monitors and trends patient outcomes.
14. Provides direct patient care as applicable to facilitate the plan of care.
15. Provides and/or coordinates education to nursing and hospital staff, other disciplines, students, community and patients/families utilizing teaching/learning theory and appropriate teaching strategies.
16. Provides professional in-services, as necessary.
17.Provides public in-services, as requested.
18. Assists in the development and revision of policies, procedures and clinical guidelines.
19. Assists and participates in regulatory compliance education, gathering and auditing of data, presentation of data.
