Description
The Director is responsible for the management of nursing practice and operations of the Nursing Home Infusion. This includes, but is not limited to, the management of: clinical nursing practice, staff recruitment, retention, labor relations, supply chain and budget, staffing, employee performance evaluation, quality improvement, staff education, medical records, internal and external regulatory and survey requirements. The Clinical Nurse Manager collaborates with multiple professionals to support and coordinate the provision/management of patient care. He or she works closely with the Nursing Clinical Director, Physician Leader, and staff in ensuring that the Service/Unit maintains the highest standards of patient care and is responsive to the needs of the patient & family as well as the organization. The Clinical Nurse Manager is the Nursing Leader of their designated unit/service. The CNM has the ability to create and empower teams to embrace and implement change that will improve the clinical, operational, and financial performance.
Responsibilities
- Hires, evaluates and develops Nurse Managers, supervisors and other staff. Sets performance standards, provides guidance, identifies learning needs, selects appropriate learning experiences and delegates responsibility.
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate goals and objectives for area of responsibility within the framework of the Department of Patient Care Services.
- Ensures that the area of responsibility meets regulatory agencies, professional, hospital and department standards. Develops and/or implements a system whereby the quality and effectiveness of care is defined, monitored, maintained and/or improved. Participate in hospital, quality improvement programs.
- Oversees and recommends the formulation of clinical procedures and standards specific to the clinical division(s).
- Collaborates with administration, department heads, and medical staff to plan, problem-solve, implement and evaluate programs and decisions which affect the delivery of patient care
- Identifies problems and executes resolutions.
- Makes recommendations to senior leadership regarding departmental policies, practice issues and contractual agreements.
- Participates in Service line activity for the health system
- Participates as a team member in planning new services and in formulating hospital and patient care services policies. Leads in intra and inter departmental committees and meetings.
- Fosters a professional practice environment through the encouragement and facilitation of collegial interdisciplinary relationships, peer review, nursing research, innovative concepts of nursing practice, and joint practice arrangements through affiliating universities. Acts as a preceptor for graduate students.
- Fosters positive labor relations in area of responsibility. Hears and adjusts grievances at second level. Approves suspensions and terminations of employees.
- Communicates appropriate information to subordinates and keeps peers and superiors apprised of needs and current developments. Demonstrates organization in written and oral communication.
- Prepares staffing proposals and makes recommendations relating to existing personnel budgets. Determines utilization of allocated budget for area within budgetary constraints. Operates division(s) within acceptable budget variance according to departmental guidelines. Implements monitoring systems and practices to ensure continued operating efficiency.
- Operationalizes patient classification system that provides valid data.
- Participates in the development and monitoring of the supply expenses and capital budget of the division.
- Assumes relief coverage Patient Care Services as assigned.
- Participates in the department’s performance improvement activities.
- Maintains patient/employee confidentiality in the management of information.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science with a major in nursing required
- Master's Degree in Nursing or healthcare-related field required
- Doctorate preferred
- Minimum of five to seven years of progressive nursing leadership experience demonstrating solid management abilities.
- Licensed as a registered nurse with current registration in New York State
- Basic Life Saver (BLS) Issuing Agency: AHA
- Must have relevant clinical competence in the area of Infusion & Nursing.
- Evidence of ability to maintain and promote interpersonal relationships and work effectively and efficiently to solve problems.
- Demonstrates the ability to work in a team displaying effective communication.
- Critical thinking and organizational skills are essential.
Compensation Statement
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $127,044.00 - $190,565.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
