About the job: The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide quality nursing care to residents within DJJ under the supervision of a RN, NP or MD. Evaluates residents' requests for medical services through the use of established nursing protocols. The LPN consults with the RN as needed when using nursing protocols and standing orders. Responds to medical emergencies and practices within the scope of LPN licensure as is defined by the VA Board of Nursing and the prevailing community standards of practice.
Core responsibilities include and are not limited to: collecting medical service requests (MSR) daily, keeping providers informed of the medical needs of the residents i.e. through a completed protocol, need for renewals of medications, medication refusals, referrals and laboratory/test results, and participating in maintenance of charts through chart audits, chart thinning, resupplying charts with forms and timely documentation of nursing notes.
Night Shift hours: 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 a.m.

Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrates a working knowledge of practice, procedures and techniques of nursing care, emergency procedures and medication administration. Demonstrates the ability to understand and utilize established nursing protocols and standing orders. Consults with the RN/NP/MD as needed. Consistently demonstrates follow through with direct care patients as indicated. Transcribes and implements physician's standing orders correctly and fully. Demonstrates
knowledge of adolescent growth and development.
Additional Considerations
*Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing Program
* Experienced clinical practice in corrections, ambulatory care, pediatrics, or adolescents
* Or prior LPN experience in DJJ
* Basic knowledge of electronic record keeping
* Experience with medication administration and the 5 patient rights
* LPN licensure in good standing in Virginia or compact state
* Healthcare Provider (Professional Rescuer) CPR certification current with two persons, bag valve mask and AED
