Richmond Henrico Health District (RHHD) is looking for an Epidemiology Public Health (PH) Nurse Supervisor to join the clinical leadership team. RHHD’s Mission is to “Protect health, champion equity, and partner to address local needs” and this position is instrumental in carrying out this mission in the clinical services arena. This supervisor will be responsible for clinical epidemiological program oversight, operations management, and supervision for public health team members.
This position exercises line supervision over multiple registered nurses by training, scheduling, formally evaluating performance and issuing discipline. Also performs direct nursing service by independently providing professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. Actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code.
This position will protect the public’s health by providing program oversight and expertise in multiple fields including but is not limited to tuberculosis case management, childhood lead exposures, rabies exposures, emergency shelter response, epidemic preparedness and the RHHD employee health program. This position will be a key member of the agency’s Rapid Response Team, ensuring that RHHD is prepared and ready to respond to a myriad of public health emergencies.
As a supervisor, this position is responsible for performance management, clinical service oversight, and other duties. This position ensures theses services are being executed within VDH policy and that staff are trained to provide these services and ensuring quality care is implemented in the clinical aspects of the main site and community-based locations and events. Ensures clinical services are up to necessary standards and are compliant with current Regulations.
Additionally, the PHN Supervisor assists in facilitating community engagement and educational outreach across the Richmond and Henrico Health District and is knowledgeable of social and economic conditions related to public health nursing. The PHN can make sound, independent nursing judgments, analyze and problem solve, and establish priorities. Participates in regular trainings and staff meetings. This position may also provide direct nursing care in the clinical setting, communities, homes and schools.

VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year's seasonal influenza vaccination.
Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability to effectively supervise staff in the areas of public health nursing and population health
• Knowledge of grants, case management, ambulatory clinic services, and agencies/programs that support the underserved and underinsured populations
• Knowledge of public and community health principles, and of nursing and health care programs
• Knowledge of nursing theories related to improving the health of the community
• Working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite
