OverviewAs a Critical Care Nurse at CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health, you’ll monitor patients who are critically ill and unstable following extensive injury, surgery, or life-threatening disease.
Each shift begins with a patient report from a nursing teammate before making your rounds. You’ll continue to provide whatever care or procedures are required throughout the shift. This could mean assisting a physician with a chest tube or central line, providing wound care, transporting the patient for an MRI or CT, or administering medications.
To thrive in this role, you’ll heavily depend on your ability to multitask and react. You’ll clinically care for your patients, remain focused and attentive, and advocate for their best interests. It is your sound judgment during an emergency and rapid response that puts you on the radar for advancement.

Responsibilities- Assesses patient’s health and continuously monitors; detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
- Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol
- Sets priorities in plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel, supplies, and equipment required to care for patients based on assessed needs
- Works collaboratively with provider to provide exceptional care
- Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures
- Provides patient and family education
- Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
QualificationsRequired Education and Experience
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing
Required Licensure and Certifications
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
- Strong oral communications skills
- Ability to deal with conflict and difficult people
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of all regulatory agencies and their standards and processes
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
