UPMC Hamot's Electrophysiology (EP) Lab is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our dedicated team. Previous cardiac experience is highly preferred. This is a full-time position with Monday through Friday shifts—no weekends or call. Flexibility with the shift is available based on department caseload, with hours typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional late shifts as needed.
Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

Position Overview:
The Senior Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse and an essential member of the care delivery team. This role is responsible for setting the standards for patient care quality and level of service. The Senior Professional Staff Nurse manages patient care activities for a group of patients, applying independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with all team members. The position also involves leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision, establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, patients, and their families to ensure desired patient outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Identify opportunities for clinical quality and workplace improvement, incorporating evidence-based practices regularly into professional practice.
- Serve as a role model of professional nursing by demonstrating leadership in areas such as clinical expertise, teaching, specialized resource nursing, and evidence-based practice.
- Provide feedback to team members and actively participate in nursing peer review processes.
- Promote changes that enhance patient care quality and the work environment. Lead and serve on teams that launch innovations in patient care and support a healthy workforce.
- Demonstrate highly developed clinical assessment and analytical skills, practicing Relationship-Based Care to improve patient outcomes.
- Participate in shared governance at the unit level and contribute to hospital-wide councils.
- Passionately mentor and precept students, graduate nurses, and new hires, providing support for continuous learning and professional development.
- Formulate daily care plans that involve patients as partners and address their individual needs in a holistic manner.
- Effectively communicate patient conditions to other care providers, advocating for changes to improve patient care and unit practices.
- Maintain comprehensive patient documentation to ensure effective communication among caregivers and promote patient safety and quality care.
- Identify and address clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues in patient care, incorporating national standards and system goals to improve safety, quality, and patient satisfaction.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues and patients, fostering a compassionate, patient-focused environment.

The individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately with patients of all ages as specified for their assigned unit. This includes knowledge of the principles of growth and development across the lifespan, as well as the ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific care requirements. Care must be provided in accordance with department policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
- BSN preferred.
- Must achieve a "Solid," "Strong," or "Good" rating or higher on the Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation for promotion to this level.
- Must maintain a "Solid," "Strong," or "Good" rating or higher on annual performance evaluations to retain status.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
- Ability to work effectively and productively in a complex environment, managing multiple or changing priorities and specialized equipment.
- Exemplary clinical judgment with strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities related to patient care.
- Ability to lead others in the application of the nursing process.
- Mobility and manual dexterity required, with physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Education & Certification:
- Annual completion of a professional contribution, selected from department, hospital, or system goals, and approved by the Unit Director, OR UPMC-approved nursing certification within 1 year of hire/transfer (must be maintained).
- Certification is not required if a Master's in Nursing or DNP is held. If a BSN is held, a Master's degree in a related field may substitute for certification.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state where the facility is located, or in a state covered by a multistate licensure compact agreement.
- UPMC-approved nursing certification preferred.
- CPR certification required, based on AHA standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration components, within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS certification required within 1 year of hire/transfer.
- Act 34 Clearance
Note: If the facility is located in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license from a participating NLC state is acceptable. Hires and current employees holding an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is located must apply for licensure within 60 days of changing residency.
