Alameda County Youth CSU is a Crisis Stabilization Unit serving youth populations within Alameda County. These programs provide screening/triage, medication support and brief treatment in a safe, protective setting. These programs are sometimes co-located with acute inpatient programs, allowing for a 'warm hand-off' transfer when needed. The typical length of stay is up to 24 hours.
What You Will Do to Change Lives
The Nurse Coordinator is a treatment team member who is responsible for supervising designated staff and performing evaluations. The Nurse Coordinator ensures that the physical and psychological needs of members served through direct and indirect services in a manner consistent with Rehabilitation and Recovery principles. Primarily performs activities that may be carried out only by professional nursing personnel.
Shifts Available:
Full Time 1.0; AM 7:00am - 3:30pm; Monday - Friday, Weekends and After Hours as needed
Expected starting wage range is $125,258.42 - $154,736.95. Telecare applies geographic differentials to its pay ranges. The pay range assigned to this role will be based on the geographic location from which the role is performed. Starting pay is commensurate with relevant experience above the minimum requirements.
What You Bring to the Table (Must Have)
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and four (4) years of experience with two (2) years in psychiatric nursing; OR a BS in nursing and two (2) years of psychiatric experience; OR an MS in nursing and one (1) year of psychiatric experience, including one (1) year in a supervisory capacity
- Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the state of program operations
Preferred:
- MS in Nursing or currently enrolled in an MSN program
- Six (6) years of nursing experience with four (4) in psychiatric nursing and two (2) years in a supervisory capacity
- One (1) year of experience in a community-based setting

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrates the Telecare mission, purpose, values, and beliefs in everyday language and contact with the internal and external stakeholders
- Plans, organizes, directs and controls nursing services
- Develops departmental goals, objectives, standards of performance, policies and procedures; organizes the department to meet legal, organizational and medical staff guidelines; functions in an advisory capacity to the Administrator in evaluating procedural changes as they relate to care of members served
- Makes use of management practices that include empowerment of staff, the provision of clear and concise expectations regarding duties assigned employees, frequent feedback focusing on both positive and problematic aspects of work performance, and other management practices that are consistent with Continuous Quality Improvement
- Promotes and maintains professional and effective relationships and communications within the department and with other departments
- Collaborates with other administrative staff in strategic planning activities with the goal of ensuring ongoing effectiveness of the facility
- Establishes staffing requirements and recommends to administration the numbers and classifications of personnel to be employed
- Directs the recruitment, selection and when necessary disciplinary action within the Nursing Department
- Implements the safety program and actively participates in reducing Workers Compensation
- Establishes standards for procurement of supplies and equipment for the department
- Manages the Nursing Department within allocated budgetary parameters and may participates in the development of the fiscal budget
- Ensures that the nursing department is in compliance with all related state, federal and local licensing regulations and requirements
- Oversees and ensures medication management and infection control standards
- Collaborates with leadership team and all department on quality initiatives
- Coordinates nursing services with other clinical and ancillary services.In the process of accomplishing this, promotes the cost-effective use of personnel, supplies and equipment
- Establishes and defines standards which ensure safe and therapeutically effective care
- Assesses the quality of care rendered by the Nursing Department and ensures sound practice
- Establishes and maintains a comprehensive Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement program within the Nursing Department which includes frequent collaboration with other departments, employee education, and a focus on monitoring departmental standards and actively removing barriers to the provision of high quality care
- Is an active participant of all committees involving members served safety, nursing policies, practices and procedures
- Assumes responsibility for her/his professional growth and the ongoing professional development of the nursing staff
- Maintains and establishes a therapeutic relationship with members served
- Participates on multidisciplinary teams, providing information or services consistent with Recovery principles
- Provides staff training and consultation as requested
- Provides individualized education and information to members served regarding their illness, medication, side effects, etc.
- Assists the Psychiatrist and Treatment Team as needed
- Supervises the ordering of medical supplies and oversees medication system
- Ensures appropriate authorizations for medication reimbursement
- Provides linkages and referrals to other agencies
- Ensures discharges are completed effectively and efficiently
- Performs nursing assessments, interventions, medication oversight, and administration as needed
- Reports members served social, psychiatric, and physical behavior as indicated
- Reviews and implements members served service plans
- Actively participates in multidisciplinary staff meetings and treatment planning meetings
- Assists Clinical Administrator and Team members in providing other services as needed
- Provides 24-hour, on-call coverage on a rotating basis per program need and as assigned
- Accepts risks inherent in working in a community-based program
- Demonstrates knowledge of professional management of assaultive behavior techniques
- If employed at Inpatient program, must assist with restraint of members served in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training
- If employed at Outpatient program, must evade members served in the event of assaultive behavior and pass assault crisis/crisis prevention training
