Supervisory duties: Oversee Health Assistants
Summary: Under direction of the Health Services Coordinator performs work of moderate difficulty coordinating the work of health assistants in meeting each school's student health needs. Oversees the provisions of health services and the maintenance of health records. The School Nurse maintains the school's health office which assists each student in reaching their optimal physical potential.

- Develops procedures and operational guidelines for school health offices in collaboration with the District RN Coordinator and Special Services Director.
- Provides training to health assistants.
- Assist site principals with supervision of health assistants.
- Substitutes for absent health assistants.
- Assists site health assistants with solving problems. Provides direction on where to obtain further assistance.
- Plans and administers programs for routine student health screenings of all students.
- May advise on the development of health education.
- Recommends adjustments of the educational program to meet the health needs of individual students.
- Identifies potential student health needs and develops and implements systems and protocols to assure adequate coverage for student first aid and emergency health needs and responds to health emergencies to administer first aid when appropriate.
- Provides direct support for medically fragile students.
- May advise on the establishment of all policies relating to the health of school children.
- Ensures that cumulative health records for each student are complete and current.
- Reviews accident reports and other documents related to health questions.
- Responds to health emergencies at assigned schools and administers emergency first aid when appropriate.
- Consults with parents on student health problems as they relate to school and other activities.
- Assists administration with informing the community on the nature and progress of the District's health program.
- Orders and stocks medical supplies and equipment for assigned schools.
- Compiles data to generate mandated and operational reports.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of professional nursing standards, practices and procedures.
Knowledge of state and local laws and CFSD rules and regulations regarding student immunization requirements.
Knowledge of administering CPR and CFSD health emergency protocols.
Knowledge of the proper storage, administration and dispensation of over the counter and prescription drugs, including controlled substances.
Skill in coordinating non-professional health support staff.
Skill in assessing needs and developing student health services policies, programs and procedures.
Skill in communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, administrators, students and medical professionals.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred or RN currently enrolled in BSN program
- Unencumbered current Arizona License as a Registered Nurse
- Current Level 1-IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card through Arizona Department of Public Safety
- Current CPR and First Aid certificates
- Valid Arizona Driver's License and clear driving record
- Related School and/or pediatric experience preferred

Work Environment:
Works indoors - classroom and/or health office environment. Outdoors - playground, exposure to all weather conditions and temperatures. Exposure to noise, dust and fumes. Extensive contact with students, parents and teachers.
