The Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for to providing non-professional nursing care and related services as required to meet the personal and emotional needs and comfort of residents, and to provide assistance with occupational and physical therapy, and speech program activities.
The following duties are primarily performed and which are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.- Performs total cares; assists or supervises resident activities in daily living, including bathing, grooming, dressing and oral hygiene. Follows care plan on master assignment sheets. Makes suggestions to the Team Leader regarding any changes in resident status.
- Assists residents at meal times according to feeding programs; serves and removes meal trays; serves between meal snacks; prepares and serves unscheduled nourishments; records fluid and food intake.
- Reports and records observations of resident physical, emotional and spiritual condition with nursing assistant guidelines; charts level of care required by each resident regarding toileting, activities of daily living, feeding, restraints, etc.; reports faulty equipment.
- Participates in providing rehabilitative nursing care or active treatment as specified by the resident care plan; provides assistance with physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech, and activities program.
- Transports residents using wheelchairs, sit to stand, med-lift, and two or three person lifts, transfer belts, etc, or provides assistance with ambulation.
- Responds to resident call lights, wander alarms, and motion alarms.
- Follows universal precautions.
- Provides assistance in maintaining a safe, clean and therapeutic environment; distributes and changes linens; disposes of soiled linen properly; keeps utility, linen and soiled linen rooms in order; keeps hallways and rooms free of clutter; performs other cleaning duties as required; puts away personal laundry; disposes of waste properly.
- Participates in in-service and other trainings and meetings as required.
- Performs other duties of a comparable level/type, as required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS- Current certification as a certified nursing assistant in the State of WI.
- No previous work experience necessary.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONSIn order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following knowledge, skills, and abilities are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess.- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of proper lifting mechanics.
- Knowledge of unit recordkeeping and charting procedures.
- Knowledge of unit general policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of restraining techniques.
- Skill in providing assistance to residents in basic daily care (bathing, grooming, dressing, oral hygiene).
- Skill in assisting in and participating in rehabilitation, physical, recreational or occupational therapy activities.
- Skill in recording and documenting in charts resident behaviors, observations, fluid/food intake, etc.
- Ability to observe and inform nursing personnel of any significant resident status changes.
- Ability to establish rapport with residents.
- Ability to follow directions, instructions and perform duties in accordance with resident care plans, nursing instruction and assist residents in accordance with CNA expectations.
- Ability to properly lift and use body mechanics.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships.
- Ability to follow Dunn County policies and procedures.
- Ability to manage time effectively and complete work within established deadlines.
- Ability to work the allocated hours of the position.
MINIMUM LANGUAGE SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS In order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following language skills are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess. - Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with other staff members, supervisors, and community members in written and verbal form.
- English skills (oral, written and comprehension) sufficient to effectively communicate with all internal and external customers.
MINIMUM REASONING ABILITY QUALIFICATIONSIn order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following reasoning abilities are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess.- Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Must have ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
MINIMUM MATHEMATICAL ABILITY QUALIFICATIONSIn order to perform the duties of the position (listed above) the following mathematical skills are essential for the Certified Nursing Assistant to possess.- Ability to make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
- Ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages.
- Ability to understand and apply governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records.
