Description

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: For the minimum physical demands required to complete the essential functions for this position, including vision, hearing, repetitive motion and environment, see the description following.

The Wound Care Nurse:

1. Has a major responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating quality patient care that is consistent with the established policies and procedures of the clinic.

2. Competently evaluates and treats wounds of the following categories and underlying conditions affecting them: Venous, Arterial, Diabetic, Burns, Surgical, Neuropathic, Traumatic, Bacterial, Viral and Fungal.

3. Is knowledgeable of the age specific attributes of the patients presenting for care.

4. Stays current with accepted “standards of care” in the field of wound care treatment. Responsible to educate staff on up-to-date wound care modalities and wound care algorithms.

5. Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.

6. Is responsible for the education of patients, family members, significant others, and all health care team members as allowable under (HIPAA).

7. Is primarily responsible for coordinating a quality discharge plan with assigned patients and their families/significant others in collaboration with the primary physician, wound care staff and other health care professionals.

8. Makes independent wound care decisions within his/her scope of practice (as described by licensure and/or hospital policy) relating to patient care and performing other duties and functions that include, but are not limited to those described.

9. Utilizes effective human relations and communication skills when interfacing with physicians, practitioners, patient’s/families/significant others and takes positive action to resolve patient care problems. Promotes excellence in customer/quest/staff/professional relations.

10. Maintains patient confidentiality.

12. Conduct reflects the mission, vision and guiding principles of Mountain View Hospital and the Advance Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center.

13. Agrees to abide by HIPPA Regulations.

14. On a regular and recurring basis assigns day-to-day work to others, checks their work, eliminates ordinary work difficulties they may encounter, maintains their work flow, and determines method in which work is performed.

15. Provides work leadership to Wound Care Technician and other Wound Care Nurses.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: Current License as a Physical Therapist, LPN or RN. Holds and maintains certification as a nurse, or Physical Therapist. BLS certification and renewal as required. General knowledge of instructional skill, quality management, skill analysis and group dynamics.

Experience: 2 years current experience in wound care.

Equipment/Technology: Ability to successfully and competently utilize computer software for operation of department.

Language/Communication:

Mathematical Skills: Average

Mental Capabilities: Must have the ability to concentrate for long periods of time in order to complete assigned tasks with a better than average attention span, in order to listen, read and remember verbal and written instructions. Can understand input from the director concerning errors and instructions. Ability to exercise independent judgment with attention to detail, have the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written format.

Performance: Able to deal with difficult client situations and emergencies in a calm and professional manner. Must be able to handle conflict issues with both patients and staff. Able to maintain confidentiality.
