This position may offer up to a $1,000 sign-on bonus or up to 40 hours of annual leave frontloaded for a highly qualified candidate with a (1) year commitment with VDH-Blue Ridge Health District (BRHD).

BRHD is one of 35 health districts under the Virginia Department of Health, serving the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson, and the city of Charlottesville. This position independently provides professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes and schools and other community or congregate care settings. Performs nursing assessments, may perform lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, including the administration of medication and case management. Participates in public health emergencies and community health assessments. Actions performed at this level require licensure as a RN by state code. May supervise support staff.
While based out of the Louisa County Health Department, the individual may work at other locales, or within our community settings.

VDH requires all Health-Care Personnel (HCP) to provide documentation of immunization or evidence of immunity to the following: hepatitis B, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a one-time dose of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap) vaccine regardless of the interval since the last dose of tetanus-diphtheria (Td) vaccine was administered (Td or Tdap boosters shall be received every 10 years); and the current year's seasonal influenza vaccination.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia or compact state. If a new graduate, must obtain RN license within 90 days of the date of hire or subject to termination per the regulations governing the practice of nursing.
- Requires BLS certification.
- Requires adherence to all safety policies including a review of immunizations, driver safety policies, and all other state policies.
- Communicates verbally and in writing, to analyze problems, situations and suggest solutions, leadership, follow directions and establish priorities.
- Skills in physical examination, health assessment, and interviewing and counseling technique.
- Ability to function independently, prioritize and organize work, solve problems, adapt to change, function as a team member and relate to the public.
- Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, principles of epidemiology; immunizations; basic nursing science, medical terminology, case management.
- May travel and some weekend and/or evening hours may be required.
- Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR).
Additional Considerations
- Additional study in the area of health promotion/or public health is preferred.
- Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion.
