Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the home care aide include, but are not limited to, the following:
Caregiver Duties and Responsibilities:

Offering companionship to patients

Taking clients to their medical appointments, the grocery store and other important places

Medication reminders
-
Preparing meals when needed
-
Keeping the house clean and doing laundry when needed

Providing bathing and dressing assistance

Keeping proper care records
-
Encouraging socialization and participation in community activities

Communicating with medical professionals about the patient care plan

Ambulating/Transferring patient has needed for comfort

Toileting/diapering if required, as well as overall personal hygiene

Maintaining a safe and comfortable home environment
Caregiver Qualifications and Skills:

Experience with Alzheimer’s or dementia care
-
Mental health training for patients dealing with social, emotional or mental health concerns
-
First aid and CPR training so they can respond in an emergency
-
Training in any special areas of care you provide

We can help you obtain your Home Care Aide License with the CDSS if you don't already have one, including the mandated training (paid training!)

Personal Attendant Duties: At least 80% of PA’s time has to be directly related to the personal care of any client for whom services are provided for. Personal care includes companionship, bathing, hygiene, showering, transfers, toileting, medicine reminders, meal preparation, managing money, shopping for groceries, outings and light housekeeping only when directly related to the Client and the space occupied by the client. No more than 20% of PA’s time may be spent performing tasks that do not relate directly to client such as taking care of a pet, watering the lawn, clipping flowers, or cleaning areas not used by the client. At no such time should a PA do any heavy house cleaning, services for anyone in the home other than client, use any needles or put anything in client’s body, such as a feeding tube or intravenous injection or administering medication.
Position Qualifications
· At least 18 years of age.
· Current registration with the State of California Home Care Aide Registry (we can help you with this if you don't have it!)
· Completion of a criminal background check and disclosure of any criminal history or evidence of exemption.
· Evidence of tuberculosis testing and verification that the home care aide does not have active tuberculosis.
· Consistently at work on time, giving client and their loved ones peace of mind
· Follows instructions, responds to management direction.
· Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
· Self-directing with the ability to work with little direct supervision.
· Empathy for the needs of the ill, injured, frail and the impaired.
· Demonstrates tact, patience and good personal hygiene.
· Valid driver’s license and auto insurance and/or reliable transportation.

· Must be able to lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and or move from 25 up to 50 pounds.
· Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nurse Next Door affiliated home care aides shall be selected on the basis of such factors as a sympathetic attitude towards the care of the sick, ability to carry out directions, maturity and ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job. All affiliated Home care aides employed by Nurse Next Door to provide in-home care services will be 18 years old (or if under 18 years of age be a high school graduate or enrolled in a vocational education program) and have sufficient communication and language skills to enable them to perform their duties and interact effectively with clients and other agency staff. Home care aides must meet all registration, criminal background checks and training requirements as specified by the State of California Department of Social Services Home Care Services Bureau and Nurse Next Door policies.
