Responsibilities Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant Director of Nursing.
The Assistant Director of Nursing (A-DON) the full range of supervisory duties to include personnel and resource management comprised of coordinating staffing support, scheduling, hiring, and enforcement of performance standards. Additional duties include but are not limited to, implementation of evidence-based practice, policy enforcement, performance/quality improvement within the scope of practice.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the A-Don assumes the roles and responsibilities for the Nursing department.
- Provides the full range of supervisory duties to include personnel and resource management comprised of coordinating staffing support, scheduling, hiring, and enforcement of performance standards.
- Conducts and/or assists in nursing staff meetings to ensure communication and understanding of clinical and administrative policies and procedures.
- Responds to employee complaints and/or concerns in a timely manner, Collaborates with the Director of Nursing and HR on complaints and concerns of a more serious nature to ensure consistent application of policy.
- Completes the progressive disciplinary process in a respectful and timely manner.
- Evaluates performance and provides corrective coaching as needed to ensure higher levels of engagement and patient care.
- Analyzes clinical practice, recommends, and implements improvements in all areas of the units related to standards of care and standards of professional performance.
- Maintains knowledge of existing and emerging management tools, systems, and programs that enhance the quality and availability of patient care and integrates those concepts into area of responsibility.
- Implements evidence-based practice, policy enforcement, performance/quality improvement, utilization management, Joint Commission preparedness, budget management, staff education and competency validation.
- Directs patient care activities and other support activities within the scope of practice.
- Assist in the evaluation, monitoring, and development of quality patient care activity schedules. Encourages family involvement.
- Attends and participates in Nursing Leadership, Nursing, and other hospital meetings/committees as needed.
- Coordinate delivery of care with hospital departments. Actively participate in on-going development of quality treatment.
- Evaluate behavior management approaches to include utilization of least restrictive measures, appropriate documentation, and evaluation of specific client behavioral interventions.
- Participate and coordinate compliance in all surveys related to accreditation and licensure, act as the accountable representative for nursing services.
- Monitors and evaluates physical condition of assigned units and participates in the Environment of Care Committee and subsequent activities that include, assessments to comply with environmental, fire, and safety requirements; makes needs assessment and provides justification for equipment replacement and upgrade based on utilization trends, current and emerging technology, and clinical practice that encompass all service and planning programs in area of responsibility.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
- Active RN licensure in State of Michigan.
- 5 years of experience working in psychiatric nursing preferred.
- 3-5 years of supervisory and leadership experience preferred.
- Previous leadership and supervision experience preferred.
- CPR/HWC Certification preferred.
