This job assists in pediatric cardiac surgery procedures competently and professionally, ensures appropriate handling and maintenance of equipment and supplies, and ensures availability of equipment and supplies for pediatric cardiac surgical procedures. Scrubs for pediatric cardiac surgical procedures and performs other duties as assigned by the registered nurse (RN).
UP TO $40,000 SIGN ON BONUS (based on experience)
Education
- Required – High school diploma or equivalent
- Graduate from an accepted course in surgical technology
Work Experience
- Required - None
- Preferred – 1 year experience in a surgery setting
Certifications
- Required – Certification in Surgical Technology
- Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association
Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Good organizational skills.
- Good time management skills and ability to be self-directed.
- Ability to demonstrate good judgement.
- Ability to work in high stress situations.
- Ability to adapt to changing conditions and situations.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, surgery procedures, and implementation instruments and technologies as they pertain to pediatric cardiac.
- Understands the unique needs of patients undergoing pediatric cardiac surgery as related to pediatric defects present in various patients.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
Job Duties
- Performs direct patient care duties, including assisting physicians during pediatric cardiac procedures.
- Assists in the day-to-day operations of the pediatric cardiac surgery department.
- Coordinates availability of supplies, especially homografts and other tissues, with leadership.
- Ensures cleanliness and disinfection of endoscopes while maintaining quality control measures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
