Graduate Intern

The hospitals of Lutheran Health Network are proud to offer a student nurse advancement program that provides nursing students with a sample of ‘real world’ nursing experiences. Within each step of the program, students will work side by side with experienced RNs to gain a deeper understanding of the nurse’s role in the hospital setting.

Our student nurse advancement program is designed to prepare nursing students for their first year as an RN and ease their transition from student to practicing RN

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of unit leadership and/or a clinical nurse, performs and assists with patient care as part of the learning experience of becoming a nurse for a maximum of 12 hours per week.

MINIMAL ACCEPTABLE JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Licensure:

None required.

Experience:

No experience is required. Lutheran Health Network will provide a formalized training class; successful completion is required in order to continue employment. Additional orientation specific to unit responsibilities may also be provided.

Education:

High school diploma or its equivalent (GED)*
Graduation from accredited Nursing Program in good standing. Transcripts of classes must be submitted showing graduation date.
- Must satisfactorily complete the first scheduled nursing orientation following employment.
- Must successfully pass boards within 120 days (4 months) from graduation date.
- Successful completion of unit required education classes (ie: Intro to EKG, etc.) Must complete within the first 30 days of hire date.
- Must successfully complete the entity's Medication Proficiency Test (85% or above score) in order to administer PO, SQ, IM medications.

Registration/Certification:

CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation) Certification within three (3) months of hire.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

1) Demonstrates working knowledge of the English language, verbal and written.

2) Demonstrates a basic knowledge and understanding of nursing practice, procedures, techniques, equipment and applicable regulations.

3) Requires an understanding of basic EKG rhythms (per area of assignment).

4) Requires organizational skills to assist nursing staff and basic knowledge of office operations.

5) Demonstrates well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, in order

to establish and maintain positive therapeutic/working relationships with all internal and external unit customers, as needed.

6) Requires a working knowledge of the related behaviors, needs and comfort appropriate to the age (including neonate, child, adolescent, aging adult) and diagnosis of patient served in order to support the provision of an individualized interdisciplinary plan of care.
