GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Assisted Living Facility at the Veterans’ Home of Wyoming in Buffalo is seeking a motivated LPN to provide quality health care to the Veterans of Wyoming and their dependents. Our mission is to stabilize and help the persons we care for attain and maintain their highest functional level.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

Provides professional nursing services to residents in chronic and acute care settings.
Performs nursing assessments, diagnosis, treatment & evaluation of ill and disabled persons.
Accurately prepares and administers medications and treatments as ordered by the physician.
Assists patients in ADLs (Activities of Daily Living).

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to those individuals who have six (6) months of experience in a long-term care setting.

KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of laws, principles, practices, and techniques of professional nursing.
Knowledge of medication, administration, and complex mathematical calculations for the correct dosage.
Knowledge of maintaining medical records, charts, reports, and observations.
Knowledge of the aging process, medical problems and diseases, and behavioral issues.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to health care and Standards of Nursing Practice.
Knowledge of and ability to function and make decisions in high-stress situations.
Knowledge of and ability to use good oral and written communication skills to articulate thoughts and medical terminology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Associate's Degree (typically in Nursing)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Wyoming

Education & Experience Substitution:

2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the State of Wyoming

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to:

Lift/transfer patients to different positions.
Lift medical/patient equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.
Work holidays, evenings, nights, and/or weekends as scheduled

NOTES:

FLSA: Non-Exempt
A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
For our residents' health and protection, annual influenza vaccination is required, and annual testing for tuberculosis.
Pre-employment drug testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions (direct patient care positions are considered safety-sensitive). Drug and alcohol testing will be conducted in any position if reasonable suspicion exists.

** Hiring Bonus eligibility and conditions
- New state employees and temporary employees accepting a permanent position
- Current state employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been open to the public
- One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.
- Internal candidates will be required to remain in the position for a minimum of (1) year from the promotion date.
- Employees will only be eligible for (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
