Located in Columbus, Ohio, our behavioral health hospital specializes in treating symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, acute psychosis and other mental health crises and co-occurring detox needs. Utilizing a blend of group therapy and clinical treatment, our center provides a safe, therapeutic space. Our team our highly trained doctors and clinicians work closely to develop and oversee individualized care plans, with the goal of build the self-reliance and confidence needed for individuals to integrate safely back into the community.

The Role Itself
RiverVista is currently seeking Nursing Supervisors to work in a therapeutic hospital setting providing care and treatment to patients. Previous experience working with psychiatric patients is strongly preferred.
The Nursing Supervisor delegates, supervises and provides personal nursing care for patients and leadership to the nursing staff to assure that care standards are met and the highest degree of quality patient care is provided at all times. The position must function as a team member, team leader, and supervisor to ensure that work is accomplished and quality care is delivered, supporting team members and leading the way in celebrating team successes. While focusing on supervising the delivery of quality care, the position must also manage the resources within their control and assist others in managing resources.
Job duties include:
- Direct the team functions of the nursing activities in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Make sure that sufficient nursing staffing levels are met to ensure delivery of quality patient care.
- Assist in orientation and training of new employees and participate in their ongoing training.
- Develop and communicate shift assignments for nursing staff and monitor job performance to assure that staff are performing their work assignments within acceptable nursing standards.
- Assist in scheduling as needed.
- Communicate with nursing staff at shift change on patient conditions, needs and concerns.
- Ensure that all nursing staff follow established departmental policies and procedures.
- Keep the Director of Nursing informed of staff, patient, family and/or hospital concerns/needs and other related information and assist with solutions as needed.
- Review reports from other shifts and ensure follow-up as needed on patient care and related matters.
- Assist in performance evaluations of nursing staff.
- Investigate patient/family complaints and incidents.
- Provide leadership coverage/support in absence of the DON
- Manage the resources available in the role of nurse supervisor while ensuring that needed resources are available and that quality care is delivered to all patients.
- Provide professional nursing care to patients.
- Assess the needs of new patients and inform staff of new patient arrivals.
- Make daily patient visits to observe and evaluate patients’ physical and emotional status and revise care plan accordingly.
- Interact with medical staff, nursing staff, patient, family members, and other visitors regarding patient condition.
- Facilitate and participate in physician rounds and treatment teams.
- Conduct/monitor medication passes and treatments to assure that patient care plan requirements are met.
- Ensure that all patient care is provided in a dignified and respectful manner.
- Ensure that all nursing staff are knowledgeable of the patients’ rights, and responsibilities.
- Assess and evaluate patients who have reported accidents. Ensure accident reports are completed.
- Participate in the development of a written care plan and assessment for each patient and review and revise as appropriate.
- Participate in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each patient as required.
- Participate in the development of written preliminary and comprehensive care plan for each patient.
- Review patient care plans for appropriate patient problems, approaches, goals, and revisions based on nursing needs.
- Ensure that all staff involved in providing care to the patient are aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in administering daily care to patients.
- Ensure that a clean, comfortable and safe environment for patients is maintained at all times and assure that patient needs are met.
- Monitor team members to assure that established safety regulations on the use of equipment and supplies are adhered to.
- Ensure that all nursing work areas and patient care rooms, treatment areas, etc. are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner.
- Ensure that all patients are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity and respect.
- Assist patients in adjusting to their new home environment.
- Maintain patient documentation, records and charts to ensure an accurate, up to date record of the patient’s medical treatments.
- Review care plans as needed for any changes.
- Use monitoring tools consistently and correctly.
- Record all patient information as required.
- Maintain the confidentiality of all patient information.
- Ensure Accident/Incident Reports are completed for any unusual employee or patient occurrence.
- Assist in Quality Improvement audits of patient records.
- Maintain and work within established hospital and corporate policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, and safety, environmental and infection control standards.
- Promptly reports any suspected patient abuse, neglect or misappropriation to the DON.
- Participate in and provide scheduled training, educational classes, and orientation programs to maintain licensure of self and certification of team members and enhance quality of care.
- Attend and assist with mandatory meetings as required by the hospital.
- Stay knowledgeable in State and Federal survey regulations
- Resource to Charge Nurses on clinical and management issues.
- Provide leadership to the staff and create loyalty to the organization, its mission, and its goals by leading by example.
- Take personal responsibility for absenteeism, tardiness and turnover.

Job Requirements:
Education:
- Must be a registered nurse, BSN preferred.
Work Experience:
- Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred. Experience in patient assessments, family motivations, treatment planning and communication with external review organizations or comparable entities.
