Our Pediatric Teams at VUMC are growing! We are looking for Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants to join our Pediatric Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Chronic Kidney Disease/Dialysis, Neurology, and Hospitalist Teams. We also have Lead Advanced Practice Provider positions available as well.
Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-AC) or Physician Assistant (PA) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. Provides healthcare in primary and acute care, critical care and long-term health care settings. Has didactic education, clinical competency and national certification in identified area of clinical practice. Demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. Has an advanced knowledge of nursing theory and application. Has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice/education and provides an environment of safe quality care.

Lead APP:
Department Summary:
Pediatric Endocrinology: The Advanced Practice Provider will participate in the medical care of pediatric endocrinology patients in the acute care setting. The APP will also serve on the Pediatric Inpatient Glucose Management Service, helping to monitor and supervise glucose control in patients who are using their home insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to independently regulate glucose levels while inpatient. The APP works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary and physician team in the Department of Pediatrics using established and approved protocols as required by state law and institutional policy. They will be expected to work toward the attaining Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist designation from the American Diabetes Association. The APP demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. Inpatient Service.
Gastroenterology and Hepatology: The Advanced Practice Provider in Pediatric Gastroenterology (GI) and Hepatology will assist in the medical care of pediatric patients in the inpatient acute care setting. The APP works under the supervision of the pediatric GI/hepatology physician team using established and approved protocols as required by state law and institutional policy and will work collaboratively with members of the entire GI/hepatology multidisciplinary team. The APP should demonstrate an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical/technical competence, sound clinical judgment, professional communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. Inpatient Service.
Chronic Kidney Disease/Dialysis: The Advanced Practice Provider will participate in the medical care of pediatric chronic kidney disease and dialysis patients in the acute care and outpatient setting. The APP works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary and physician team in the Department of Pediatrics using established and approved protocols as required by state law and institutional policy. Inpatient/Outpatient Service.
Neurology: The Advanced Practice Provider will participate in the medical care of pediatric neurology patients with general and cerebrovascular neurological disorders in the acute care setting. The APP will be a part of the baclofen pump management, reprogramming and refill call service. Additionally, they will provide clinical coverage for the pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit and will assist with admissions, transfers and discharges. The APP works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary and physician team in the Department of Pediatrics using established and approved protocols as required by state law and institutional policy.
Hospitalist: The APP provides healthcare in the inpatient health care setting with the pediatric hospitalist program, providing acute and chronic care medical management, this includes care for the pediatric behavioral health patient population. Additionally, responsibilities include coordination of inpatient care, discharge planning and outpatient follow-up as needed. The APP has didactic education, clinical competency and national certification in identified area of clinical practice. The APP demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care.
• In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patient's overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
• Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
• Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
• Prescribes therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes.
• Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care;
• Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations;
• Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within specialty scope of practice;
