Position Summary

A clinical competent registered professional nurse who delivers patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. Delegates and coordinates the nursing care provided to patients in the Chemotherapy Unit andthroughout the health system. Performs duties as a clinical nurse specializing in intravenous access for chemotherapy medications, blood and other blood product administration and other miscellaneous procedures Effectively interacts with the patient, significant others, and health care team members while maintaining the standards of professional nursing. Attend internal and external meetings to keep current with literature.Accountable to patient and family for care provided, and to the Oncology Manger for totality of work performance.

Responsibilities

Evaluate patient care outcomes utilizing Quality Improvement process

Recognize and provide appropriate intervention to medically unstable patients.

Monitor and ensure the accurate and timely completion of physician orders.

Safely and accurately administer medications within the scope of RN practice.

Acquire and maintain current knowledge of all equipment and procedures generally used in the care of med/surg patients.

Supports the inpatient nursing staff when Chemotherapy treatments are ordered

Assist Manager with collection of PI data

Assess and provide care and support for adult patients.

Assessment and supervision of care provided by unlicensed staff.

Ensure departmental documents are in control

Requirements

Current R.N. licensure forOhioand maintain.

Acquire 36 CMEs related to Oncology every 3 years to maintain knowledge of new equipment, treatments and procedures and to meet accreditation requirements.
Take and pass the Fundamentals of Chemo/Immunotherapy Certification within 3 months of hire, The ONS/ONCC Chemo/Immunotherapy Certification within 6-12 months of hire, and the OCN Certification after 24 months of hire and 2,000 hours.

Current CPR card and maintain.

Proficient inuse of Epic System for patient information

Document/communicate pertinent information regarding patient condition.

Operate CRT, fax, copier, Valco scanner and other office-related equipment.

Work independently
