Work Schedule: 4x10 hour shifts, Monday-Friday; on call one day a week, one weekend a month; rotating holiday call
Accountable for the delivery of quality care to patients and families according to the individualized needs of the patient.
Provides post-anesthesia care following Cath Lab procedures, as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Provides appropriate care specific to the age of the customer/patient, to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
- Demonstrates ability to identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to customer/patient needs.
Performs an initial and ongoing assessment to determine the patient's needs.
- Includes data from the patient/significant other(s) in the assessment as appropriate.
- Prioritizes data collection according to patient's immediate needs.
- Uses assessment findings in discharge planning.
Develops/reviews/revises and individualizes the plan of care to address the patient's nursing care needs for optimum patient care outcomes. (Consultation and resources, nurses as teachers.)
- Collaborates with providers and other clinical disciplines as appropriate.

- Observes appropriate precautions when administering hazardous medications or handling excreta from patients who have received hazardous medications.

Prepares procedure rooms and equipment to facilitate treatment and examination of patients by setting up instruments/equipment and stocking supplies.
- Prepares procedure rooms and medical equipment according to appropriate procedural needs.
Prepares patient for physician exam by reviewing medical records, weighing patient, checking vital signs, obtaining information relevant to patient needs and documenting all tests/procedures in charts. Performs telephone triage to determine patient needs by recording and reporting patient condition to physician and advising patient based on doctor instructions.
- Prepares patients for exam by completing information data form in timely manner.
- Contacts patient prior to scheduled appointment to confirm information on data form.
- Provide patient with education regarding scheduled testing.
- Utilizes AIDET skills during phone conversations with patients/family. Understands and maintains HIPAA regulations during all verbal contact with patients/family.
- Receives and returns patient calls within 90 minutes based on medical priority. Accurately records and reports patient's condition as appropriate.

Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required.
- Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse. Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Unit, Emergency Room, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or Progressive care experience preferred.
License/Certifications
- Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) License, valid compact multi-state license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required for work state.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Certification(s) in area of specialty preferred.
- Certification in cardiology field (Cardiovascular Registered Nurse-CVRN) within 3 years of employment preferred.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.
- Ability to think critically and problem solve.
- Must be able to take call and report to the hospital within 30 minutes of call/page.
