About the Position: This position assists the Staffing Office Nurse Manager in analyzing, developing, overseeing, and managing nursing staff scheduling to consistently maintain appropriate number and skill mix of nursing department direct care and support staff across all patient units at CMHHIP. This position is involved in performing all the activities needed to maintain high productivity in employees of the nursing staffing office and relief pool. and works to ensure staff optimization, sets goals and objectives, maintains employee records and facilitates effective communication among employees within the department. This position is responsible for the development and maintenance of a master staffing plan to effectively utilize current FTEs to maximize efficiency of scheduling, and minimize the use of overtime within the nursing department across all patient units at CMHHIP. Duties in this position include:
Management/Clinical Direction & Supervision:- Performs as the Staffing Office Nurse Manager extension providing oversight and education as assigned
- Responsible for the direction, supervision and management of all Nursing staff assigned to the staffing office and fixed/flex pool, while working in conjunction with the Staffing Office Nurse Manager and nursing leadership
- Provides oversight of nursing staff performance by direct observation.
? This is accomplished by rounding units that fixed/flex pool staff are assigned to as well as being present in the Staffing Office - Responsible to ensure all nursing assignments and duties are completed and in compliance with CMHHIP policies, psychiatric and medical nursing standards, licensure requirements and governing bodies
- Assures emergency response skills are maintained, and training offered to assigned staff as needed
- Provides oversight and acts as a resource for staffing schedules by utilizing knowledge of acuity, and pool staff to maximize the quality of care given to unit patients on the shift
- Addresses identified sub-standard performance issues and/or policy violations at the lowest level and communicates these to the Staffing Office Nurse Manager within appropriate time frames
- Immediately communicates all reportable occurrences through the chain of command, and assure that nursing staff have documented the occurrence on the appropriate forms and in the health record
- For severe occurrences such as a patient death, this position will notify the above authorities and also report to the DON
- Conducts Code Zero drills on assigned shifts and evaluates performance
QA/PI & Nursing Trackers:- Directs actions to maximize the quality of patient care at the shift level by directing and coordinating the timely reporting of statistical and quality assurance data
- Reviews patient occurrences and responds to performance issues of assigned staff/shift
- Performs audits of nursing documentation to identify and address staff deficiencies as directed by the Staffing Office Nurse Manager
- Collaborates with non-nursing personnel to address related performance issues identified by audit, in conjunction with the Staffing Office Nurse Manager
Staff Devlopment/ Competencies: - Performs department annual competencies check offs working in collaboration with Staff Education, Nurse Educators, etc
- Implements actions to maximize the productivity of assigned nursing personnel by mentoring, training, leadership, and providing feedback through evaluation and in the moment coaching
- Manages, communicates, and demonstrates expectations for required competencies
- Identifies and provides needed training to assigned staff
- Promotes staff development and training by reinforcing staff compliance with hospital wide mandatory training. Conduct Code Zero drills on assigned shifts and evaluates the post-drill performance
- Provides corrective just in time training for substandard performance in the moment
- Maintains nursing standards of care for their assigned shift by creating and maintaining processes to communicate and follow up with assigned staff so that standards are kept in compliance
- Adheres to CDHS Code of Conduct and CMHHIP Code of Ethics
- Maintains current knowledge of NEC minutes, new policies, standards, updates, and literature related to nursing and specialty areas is maintained and communicated to subordinates
Patient Care/ Nursing Care / Supervision:- Responsible for the supervision and oversight of staff providing nursing care on assigned shifts and maintenance of a safe, secure and therapeutic environment
- Ensures prompt response to all patient's psychiatric and/or medical issues
- Participates in ensuring the patient’s Plan of Care is carried out and ensures pool staff understands the patient’s care.
- Implements audits and reviews nursing care provided on the shift
- Participates and ensures staff correctly identify patients prior to administration of medications, treatments, blood testing, handing out diet trays, or starting an invasive procedure
- Follows and maintains Infection Control standards and regulations
- Ensures staff are up to date in all nursing competencies and training according to their discipline
- May explain work processes and train others and serve as a resource or guide by advising others on how to use processes within a system or as a
member of a collaborative problem-solving team - Co-planner and able to assist with performance reviews
- Will coach and mentor staff within the department
- Contribute to and foster a cohesive team and positive work environment
- Interview applicants, recommend hire, promotion, or transfer opportunities
Other Duties as Assigned: Minimum Qualifications:Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
ANDThree years (3) of professional experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
Substitution:- There is no substitution for the required license.
- A master's or doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in nursing may substitute for up to two years of required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: - Previous state service
- Scheduling experience in a hospital setting or experience using a scheduling system
- supervisor experience to include performance reviews, disciplinary and conflict management.

- Possess the physical ability to successfully complete CTI and CPR

- Withstand impact on own body using an ASP shield
- Rotate body 90 degrees with feet planted for using a defensive tactic
- Kneel on one or both knees and stand up again with multiple repetitions
- Must be able to see and hear in order to observe, address and respond to potential breaches in safety
- Seize, hold, control or subdue violent or assaultive persons and defend oneself or others to prevent injury
- Demonstrate body agility, strength of all four limbs and the ability to walk and climb stairs consistently
- Work in situations involving assaultive behavior, physical control of another person and/or restraint situations;
- Ability to read and comprehend the English language; effectively and fluently communicates in English, both verbally and in writing
- Work in an environment with fluctuating noise and temperature (hot and cold) which may include working outdoors in inclement weather and/or concrete floor/wall work settings
- Willing and able to travel
- 2-step TB (tuberculosis) screening is required of all new employees upon hire;
- Annual influenza vaccination.
- Shift Work- May be required to work evening or weekend shifts, holidays, voluntary or mandatory overtime both in the clinic, or on patient units throughout CMHIP
- Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position.
