DSHS DDA Director of Nursing / Registered Nurse 4

The Lake Burien Transitional Care Facility is a collaborative effort between Washington State’s Department of Social and Health Services, Department of Children, Youth, and Families, Health Care Authority, with vital support from MultiCare and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
As the Director of Nursing, you will play a key role in ensuring high-quality care for youth residents. We’re seeking a compassionate leader who can effectively manage staff and oversee program operations, ensuring that medical care standards are met for every resident.
This facility is designed with children and youth in mind, initially opening with 12 beds and 108 full-time staff, with plans to grow to 24 beds and 196 full-time employees. The space is tailored to provide accessible educational services, therapies, and outdoor areas for the youth it serves. This voluntary care facility serves youth ages 13 and older who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, along with complex needs such as mental illness or substance use disorder.
Some of what you will do
- Plan, organize, direct, supervise, and evaluate all nursing services provided to youth served
- Manage, plan, lead, and organize facility nursing services, including individualized levels of nursing care to youth
- Ensure compliance and training needs through programs, such as utilization review, quality assurance, infection control and medication error review
- Collaborate with medical staff and affiliated representatives, planning for needs and improvements of nursing and health care programs and their ongoing compliance
- Ensure the nursing needs of facility and transitioning youth are met
- Maintain the nursing department at an optimal level of nursing staff readiness to ensure coverage of all shifts
Who should apply:
- A valid Washington State license to practice as a registered nurse, or the ability to obtain one by the start of employment
- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
- And, 4 years* of professional nursing experience, which includes 2 years in a lead capacity over other nursing personnel; or one year of full-time experience teaching nursing; concurrent work experience should include:
- Skills in directing nurses and making key decisions regarding actions and processes regarding quality of care and life issues
- Long-term care of patients
- Understanding of state and federal regulations related to facility compliance
- Problem-solving skills in developing solutions for unanticipated issues
- Apply inclusion and accessibility lens in the workplace
*A bachelor's degree or higher degree involving major study in nursing may be substituted for two years of nonsupervisory experience
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities
Best practices of care and treatment for youth with developmental/intellectual disabilities, behavioral health illness, or co-occurring conditions
Specialty healthcare including infection control, medical records, and/or therapy occupations
Additional informationKing County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
This is a non-permanent position that is expected to be four months in length, with the possibility of extension.
The working hours are Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
