Description
Job Summary: Coordinates day to day activities of the Medical unit. Oversees all patient care and patient throughput. Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes. Keeps Manager, Director, Administration or House Supervisor informed of any significant issue. Works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to meet the individualized need of the patient and family. The Charge Nurse will facilitate and mentor others to grow professionally and advance their knowledge and skills. The Charge Nurse will demonstrate professionalism at all times and will uphold standards of practice by holding team members accountable for continued compliance. Will practice within the parameters of the Illinois Nursing and Advanced Practice Nursing Act and Anderson Hospital policies and procedures. Practices autonomously and in accordance with professional nursing standards. Responsible to Nursing Supervisor (bed facilitator) for potential bed needs.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Makes assignments for all staff. Coordinates resources.
2. Assists with staffing, making phone calls for call-in’s and high census
3. Conducts department huddles
4. Facilitates admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients in a timely manner.
5. Responds to Code Blue and Rapid Response Team Calls or delegates as appropriate.
6. Acts as a resource for staff
7. Makes patient rounds daily
8. Coordinates activities with MTS and Coroner
9. Checks Crash Carts
10. Monitors Telemetry
11. Assists with Performance Improvement Activities
12. Facilitates conflict resolution within and between other departments
13. Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes.
14. Engages in activities to expand and / or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practices.
15. Provides leadership and autonomy in the professional practice setting and the profession.
16. Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical, and religious diversity.
17. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to primarily adult and geriatric populations as indicated.
18. Completes documentation accurately and in a timely manner according to hospital policies and procedures.
19. Adheres to standard precautions and infection control standards.
20. Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides ongoing education and evaluation.

Education Requirements and Other Requirements:
Education Level: Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Certification/Licensure: Illinois Licensed
BLS certification required
ACLS within 1 year of hire
Experience Requirements: Minimum of 2 years Medical/Surgical Care Experience
Education Requirements: Orientation, Annual competency standards, mandatory training, and unit
specific education
Will have and maintain above credentialing
