The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia is seeking applicants for a Certified Nursing Assistant to join the Southwest Virginia Care Connection for Children in Bristol, VA. Clinical Coordinator and case management – including children with disabilities and some adults who are coming here for care. More than 190,000 children in Virginia have special healthcare needs — physical disorders that are expected to last for at least 12 months. These children need treatment beyond the norm and may face social, academic, or athletic challenges.
The Southwest Virginia Care Connection for Children, sponsored by the Virginia Department of Health, is a statewide network of regional programs that provides healthcare coordination, community support, and resources to children with special healthcare needs. We gather case managers, medical providers, educators, and family members together to plan and manage a plan of care specific to each child.
Six regional programs operate throughout the commonwealth (Central Virginia, Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, Roanoke, and Southwest Virginia). Each program is managed locally, maximizing the program's ability to make efficient and effective use of the area's unique resources.
The ideal candidate will be someone who is highly dependable, has a passion for working with children with disabilities and enjoys being part of a team.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner. Direct them to the appropriate room.
Clean and stock exam rooms. Heights, weights, pulse, blood pressures
Perform necessary vital signs on patient.
Check to make sure that patient history is complete (i.e. immunization records, allergy to medications, birth weight etc.). Scan in necessary documents.
Obtain brief summary of patient complaint. Complete chief complaint in EMR. Read previous visits to obtain follow-up plan as needed.
Assist providers in any necessary procedures.
Makes patient calls as needed.
Complete any necessary documentation for patient's (i.e., school forms, medication forms).
Call hospitals to obtain any necessary results i.e. (lab and x-ray results).
Keep a clean, safe and organized work environment for patients and staff.
Attend any necessary meetings to be up to date on changes in protocol and procedures.
Work as a team with clinical and front office staff for optimal patient care.
Assist the doctor if needed.
Follow any OSHA and Safety requirements for rooms and documentation.
Travel as needed to field clinics in Wise and Tazewell
Use time keeping system to accurately record time worked.
Must be cross trained, with the ability to change roles as needed (i.e., front desk to floor and floor to front desk)
Perform other various duties as assigned, including cross training in other functional areas.
Scheduling and registering patients in EPIC
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma
Experience: At least one year of experience as a CNA.
Licensure: Certified Nursing Aide certification and CPR certification.

Physical Demands:
This position is located in Bristol, VA.
This position works day time hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays.
Anticipated Hiring Range:
$16 - $21/hour based on education and experience.
