Job Summary

Works under the direct supervision of a physician. Is responsible for enlisting, maintaining, and assuring protocol compliance for all patients in research programs. Collaborates with physicians in determining eligibility of patients. Provides education to staff and patients. Ensures research quality by practicing in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Acts as a recognized technical subject matter expert in own and possibly related discipline(s). Has substantial understanding of techniques, processes, procedures to perform the job and seeks to complete tasks in creative and effective ways. Runs program(s) with moderate budget/impact.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
Clinical Research Coordinator Certification: Preferred

Department Specific License/Certifications

Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQI BLS) certification: Required

Essential Functions

Screens potential patients for protocol eligibility. Presents concepts and details to the patients, participates in the informed consent process, and enrolls patients on protocol.
Coordinates patient care in compliance with protocol requirements. Disburses investigational drugs and provides patient teaching regarding administration. Maintains investigational drug accountability.
Reviews patients for changes in condition, adverse events, concomitant medication use, protocol compliance, response to study drug, and thoroughly documents all findings.
Responsible for accurate and timely data collection, documentation, entry, and reporting. Schedules and participates in monitoring and auditing activities.
Provides a safe environment for patients, families, and clinical staff at all time through compliance with all federal, state, and professional regulatory standards as issued through Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Maintains strict patient confidentiality according to the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations and applicable law.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Organizational Requirements
