Job Summary: Provides nursing care through physical and mental assessments, laboratory testing, treatment plans and therapeutic treatments. Knowledgeable of a wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral. Performs crisis intervention. Participates in the department's performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
- Ability to perform nursing assessments on all clients and reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and the general client population.
- Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the client and family regarding pain management.
- Performs thorough client psychiatric interviews.
- Continuously observes client's behavior, mental status and activities.
- Formulates and implements client treatment plans; family is included when appropriate.
- Revises treatment plans as indicated by the client's response to treatment and evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness.
- Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to level of licensure.
- Knowledgeable of medications including psychotropic drugs and their correct administration based on the age of the client and their clinical condition.
- Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
- Performs client care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for client's age.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform crisis intervention and triage.
- Provides psychotherapeutic treatments to clients and families; individual sessions, groups, family sessions and educational classes.
- Documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Coordinates and supervises client care as necessary.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to the Nurse Manager, coworkers and physicians.
- Concurs with members of the treatment team for the benefit of the client.
- Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the client's needs.
- Treats clients and families with respect and dignity; provides emotional support.
- Performs all aspects of client care in an environment that optimizes client safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- Provides education to the client and family concerning treatment plans, compliance with the treatment plan, medications and their side effects.
- Functions as a client and family advocate at all times.
- Orients new staff members and students.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
- Completes annual educational Requirements
- Provides care appropriate to condition and age of client including, pediatric, adolescent, adult and the geriatric population.
Qualifications Professional Requirements:
- Ensures client confidentiality and complies with HIPAA guidelines at all times.
- Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Complies with all organizational policies regarding corporate compliance and ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility as well as the focus statement of the department.
- Maintains regulatory requirements
Other Professional Requirements:
- Meets dress code standards; appearance is professional, neat and clean.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled.
- Wears identification while on duty; uses computerized punch time system correctly
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Regulatory Requirements:
- Current state Registered Nurse Licensure.
- Current CPR certification.
- Current CPI certification preferred.
- A minimum of one (1) year experience in a behavioral health facilities preferred.
