Job Summary:
To provide education to patients and staff on and the care and maintenance and/or discontinuation of PICC lines. To consult with physicians and nursing staff on an ongoing basis regarding psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the procedural process and communicates with physician and other team members regarding care and condition of patients throughout the procedural stay. To perform PICC line insertions on patients. To serve as a liaison to staff. To perform job duties in accordance with the medical center's purpose. To participate in continuous quality improvement goals and outcomes.
Education & Experience
Must be licensed as RN for one (1) year. Two (2) years of RNexperience in specified area preferred. BSN preferred.
Certifications, licenses or registration required: Valid RN license, BLS ninety (90) days and ACLS one (1) year required post employment, successful completion of basic EKG course required within ninety (90) days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Interpersonal skills, must have high level of concentration and maintain confidentiality. Expected to have problem solving skills related to procedural priority, personnel assignments and next level of care assignments. Must have appropriate computer skills and technical skills to maintain equipment. Must be able to set up and maintain equipment unique to this area and maintain clinical competencies according to ins standards, established policies and procedures of PICC services.
Responsibilities
- Assesses adult critical care and med-surge patients for PICC services needs.
- Provides safe and effective PICC services to the hospital patients. Assess and monitor vital signs of patients admitted in the outpatient infusion center. Notify physicians regarding patient conditions and lab results prior/during infusion therapy
- Interprets lab values for critical levels. Maintains ability to operate machines, instruments and supplies unique to this area. Maintains sterile field and aseptic techniques for PICC areas. Facilitates daily check of all emergency equipment.
- Coordinates the orientation of new employees.
- Audits equipment for the unit. Supervises all supply use and equipment use. Performs as charge nurse as needed. Maintains ability to understand PICC procedures
- Consults with physicians and nursing staff on an ongoing basis.
- Serves on at least one nursing council, hospital, or medical center committee, task force, or project team to improve patient care or work area. Demonstrates core standards of exceptional customer service.
- Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety, and reduces medical errors. Facilitates the efficient operations of the area with maximum use of resources to maximize productivity and minimize costs.
